Gen III Mounts that put the motor high and far back? What are you running?
Sorry to ask a question that has likely been asked a hundred times, but I think how much I want to move this setup makes it a little different.
Tonight I finally got around to mocking up my 5.3L/4L60E combo in my 65 GMC C10. I used these plates with the stock I6 rubber mounts and frame mounts. It required slotting the frame holes on each side a bit but after that sat right in and bolted up. However I have a few issues. The motor sits in a good spot but it has plenty of room to go WAY farther back in the truck. Also with the stock 5.3L truck pan it hangs way low(no surprise there). And the factory exhaust manifolds hit the frame mount so I cannot run them. Which leaves me likely having to build a set of headers. So I am wondering, does anyone make mounts that would allow me to move the engine back a good deal farther and up a good bit also? I am foreseeing that I will have to end up making mounts to get what I want out of this. I could easily go back a good 3-5" I think and also go up another 2-3". I really doubt anyone makes mounts to move the motor that much, I guess I am mostly wondering if it has something to do with the I6 mounts. |

Welcome to the forum
In the '63-'66 trucks, the 230/250 I6 motor mounts and motor mount brackets are the same as used for the small blocks. There is someone that makes an adjustable motor mount plate for the LS engines, but I can't think of their name. I would suggest checking out the 'LSx Swap' section of the 'Engine and Drivetrain' section of this forum. You are likely to find your answers there. Keep in mind that the '67-'72 trucks use essentially the same frame as the '63-'66 trucks.

I had a local waterjet guy cot some blank mounts for me. They wont be bolt in and I'll be running a custom crossmember ( 1972 4x4)... They basically extend as far forward as possible without running into the accessories... I'll try and get a picture and some measurements over the weekend....

Early Classic Enterprises, Fresno CA. With these mounts everything clears except for the stock exhaust manifolds.

The mounts I have now have a 1" back, stock, and 1" forward setting. I am on the 1" back setting and still too far forward for my liking. Those Dirty Dingo mounts seem to have the most set back I have seen so far but still only 3". Though that would be good enough, they also only go up 1/4". I really think I am just going to have to make something sadly.

Alright thanks, that is definitely farther back than my engine. My AC compressor is lined up more in that kick-up in the frame top. I will take some photos when I head to the shop soon.

Here is how my motor is sitting. It is definitely a bit forward compared to the location of the ECE mounts. I however am more worried about how low my oil pan hangs(expected issue) so I am going to work on making my own mounts shortly. Probably end up dimpling the firewall a hair on the passenger side to make room for the coil mount so I can tuck the motor back in a bit more as well.

I think that the camaro exhaust manifolds work better in this application. note; I think that is what I hear

I used dirty dingo slider mounts... on CPP sheetmetal stands... with a CPP trans crossmember.... was very happy with all three.... enjoy! (see build link in my signature for more pics)

hello 66 lsx does your oil pan hang below crossmember any? and do you have photos of oilpan to cente link clearance? I have a allen grove sanden compressor bracket and its close on my center link. thanks.

I think with your engine where it is at should work. You need to leave some room like you have at the right valve cover to be able to work on it if you have an issue. Also fit up your intake and engine covers and see how it looks. Lot of info in the LS swap section on all this. Trail blazer SS manifolds also work well.

I used POL motor perches instead of stock. also used the CPP trans mount. My motor sits so I can slide my hand between the VC and firewall and I didnt touch the FW.
