Bench Seat Question
Question about replacing the bench seat in my 61 C20 step side. Thinking about replacing it with a more modern day bench or possibly a bucket setup with center storage. I'd like to know what's been tried already and has proven to work without too much modification. I do not have access to a welder but I can drill holes...
So if you would give me your recommendations on what my options are I'd appreciate it. |

Re: Bench Seat Question
I swapped out my original for a 1998 chevy 40 / 60 with the fold down center arm rest. I couldn't be happier although it took forever to find the seat. I did have to drill 4 extra holes but the front holes on either side lined up nicely. I dont know if they came with a fold down console and could only imagine how long it would have taken to find if I was looking for that too. This one does not have the built in seat belts like the newer ones. Belts are still attached to the floor.

Re: Bench Seat Question
not to hijack but i was looking at the seat in my 66 today. there is a lever on the driver's side but nothing on the right side to aid in sliding back and forth?

Re: Bench Seat Question
Usually there's only one handle and it is tied to both track mechanisms (with a long rod) thereby allowing the driver to adjust the seat by him / herself. Come to think of it, I've never seen an older bech seat with adjusters on both sides.

Re: Bench Seat Question
Thanks '63GenIII, I can appreciate the time it took to find that 40 / 60 split.
I was I was hoping something like a Silverado bench style could drop in or a bucket set. I have not taken any measurements yet, thought I'd draw on the groups experience. Hey LDO, on my 61, there is a wire that runs from the drivers side adjuster lever, across to the passenger side rail. When the driver makes the adjustment on his side, it pulls the wire to release the spot on the passenger side. Hope this helps. |

Re: Bench Seat Question
sorry, I didn't mean to imply that there should be an adjuster on the pass. side but there should be a mechanism that is actuated by a rod or cable from the driver side. What I meant to say is that there doesn't seem to be a mechanism on the pass. side. Just the track. It slides back and forth but it doesn't lock into position. I'll have to take some pics in the a.m. to get additional input.
