Converting to disc brakes

Looking for any input, suggestions etc. I bought this front end from a 78 to go under my 65. Need info/ideas on master cylinders, boosters, lines or anything else you would like to add.

Thanks,

Re: Converting to disc brakes

just use the a-arm, spindles, rotors and calipers on that front susp. should bolt up just fine. best if you get the stuff from the donor you got the discs from but you can go through the vendors and get all that. dont forget to rebuild suspension while its apart.

Thanks Clyde, Im gonna do the whole cross member and all. Pulling the motor will give me a chance to take care of some other things with that.

Re: Converting to disc brakes

To keep things simple just use a master cylinder for the '78. Hopefully you grabbed the proportioning valve also. For the booster, that all depends on how you want to mount it to your firewall. The booster bracket I sell does not require drilling any more holes in your firewall. Other boosters and mounts require drilling holes to mount.

It looks like you got the entire steering linkage as well. I would suggest using the '78 idler arm, but you will have to drill 2 new holes to mount it. Using the complete steering linkage, simplifies the installation and when it comes time to buy replacement parts it is easier to remember whar year if truck to ask for parts for.

Re: Converting to disc brakes

This is probably the most complete thread on disc brale conversions. Although there are a couple more in the '60-'66 FAQ section.
