Flip kit question
I'm in the process of puting the rear suspension back together under my 79 2wd Jimmy and the drive shaft is now too long to go back in the pinion yoke. It's bottoming out in the rear of the transmission before it is short enough to go back in the diff. side. Is it common to have to have the shaft shortened when doing a flip?
Some back info that may help is I'm using a DJM style flip bracket and the rear end is within 3/4" of being centered in the wheelwell opening. Any help would be appreciated as Ive spent 10 times longer on what should be a simple flip than I planned. Jeff Lee |

Did you move the rearend towards the rear of the truck, when you installed the flip kit?
(flip kit bracket hole towards the front?)

Like he said there are 2 holes in the flip kit make sure you put it in the hole that moves it back

Yes I did do that. Actually I had it the other way first and went back and changed it around thinking that would help. but no dice.
I'll post some pics in a bit to see if that will help spot something wrong. Jeff |

Just throwing this out there just because I have done it.... Make sure you put it in the most forward hole.... I put it in the back hole thinking it would move it back.... Seemed backwards to me but the forward hole is money... LOL

Here's a few pics that might help. These brackets are actually from Specialty Retail here on the board and they only have 1 hole which I have located toward the front. My only other thought would be are the bolts that hold the spring packs together in the center of the spring or are they off set a little one way(I really hope this aint the case, I dont feel like taking it all back apart AGAIN)? LOL

I finally got it. I have had the truck sitting on jack stands with the weight off the suspension but when I compressed the rear suspension with a jack to where it would be with weight of the blazer on it the shaft was easily short enough. Why is it always the simple solution I think of last? LOL

For sure I'll post some before and after pics when it hits the ground again. Right now the front is already apart for a freshening up and a little more drop. The front may be a little hard to judge as there's no front sheetmetal on it right now. Thanks for the help guys.
