What is this hood from?

The hood on this truck...from a Chevy? GMC only had one style hood for this year, correct?

That is a 1960 Chevy hood. The 61 hood is the same except for the pod inserts and perhaps the emblems. The 60-61 GMC hood is the same on the top and sides, but the front is heavy screen and all welded into one piece. Here's a pic:



The 1962-66 GMC hood looks like this:



Again the top and sides are the same as the Chevy hood, but the front panel has a scoop and different parking lights.

Thats a Chevy Apache hood. Neat looking hood but if you plan on keeping it a GMC then it doesn't really make sense. Pretty desirable hood if it's in good condition because I have heard of some people wanting to turn their later Chevy's into Apache's.

It's very common to find an "incorrect" hood on any of the 60-66 Chevy's or GMC's. Early hoods became obsolete at the dealers as soon as the original supply ran out, so collision repairs would receive the newer design. Also by the late 60's-early 70's these were just old used trucks and the later hoods were always more popular and readily available. Many 60-61 hoods were scrapped and replaced with a 62-66 version, particularly the GMC's. I knew quite a few people with 60-61 GMC's back then, and the early GMC hood was always the first thing thrown away.

Of course now the early Chevy hoods are highly sought after, and even the maligned GMC hood has become expensive because so few are left.

That is a 1960 Chevy hood. The GMC hood has screening all the way across the front without the inserts that this hood has.
