CHEAP build thread

so this is my hunk o junk burb i picked up for a steal. traded a tbi 350 for it straight across!

tbi 350/700r4 12 bolt 3.42 gears
trans is a little weak but the engine has less than 30k on a jasper.
when the engine was done they swapped in a junkyard axle and put new water pump all filters and a new modine radiator.

i found a grip of receipts in the map pocket.

i cut 2 coils off the front and cut the bump stops off, the rear got 79 1/2 ton pickup springs (minus 4 leafs) in place of the fiberglass leafs.
next im making a c notch and a upper bracket for the front shocks then buying all new shocks.

when i got it the interior was all there but trashed, after a thorough cleaning my wife will go for a ride with me!!

so the 69 is on the back burner and this is the priority for now.

Re: CHEAP B@$%#!& build thread

here is the progress on the 69, its getting a 79 1/2 ton suspension with a 12 bolt and 3.08 gears keeping the 4 speed. i pulled the engine to do a lq4 swap but came on hard times and sold it.

Re: CHEAP B@$%#!& build thread

Both of them look good, I love two-tone, especially when it looks factory. But I was talking about the 'Burb. No matter what you do for wheels tires, it'll look good with those colors. As long as they're rally silver or shiney.

Re: CHEAP B@$%#!& build thread

Thanks for the compliments! im not sure if i wanna repaint it like that but use hot rod flatz or if i just wanna "murder it out"... if i can afford it ill go with some 20" torque thrust style wheels..... probably just rallys for awhile.

Re: CHEAP B@$%#!& build thread

got one side of my ghetto fab c notch in, still have to plate the frame and box it.
nobody mentions this in their thread but on the passenger side the fuel lines run RIGHT there through where you have to cut.... move them.

i didnt cut mine but came VERY close with my torch before i remembered to look.

so anyways here is the pic of the passenger side.

not very well.. eyeballed it because i couldnt find anyone who had measurements posted. i dont think its located right, i also dont think its big enough. i gotta pull the shocks and see because they bottom out before the axle even hits the frame.

think im going to end up cutting this out and making a plate notch thats bigger and box the frame for about a foot.

Re: CHEAP B@$%#!& build thread

I've never notched a frame and have wondered how you were supposed to locate it. I didn't know you had to eyeball it. Did you install drop shocks or are the originals bottoming out?

Re: CHEAP B@$%#!& build thread

well i went and drove it, im sure somebody know how to measure it and make it right but i do not!! after driving it im more impressed with the location of the notch and think i need to measure the location and match it on the other side.

i actually just logged on to see what people are running for drop shocks! i heard you can run stock rears in the back when its this low, im going to check that tomorrow.

Re: CHEAP B@$%#!& build thread

How I was taught to measure:
1. Jack up the truck by the frame.
2. Support axle so there is no tension on springs.
3. Remove bolt from rear shackle.
4. Raise axle until it makes contact with the frame. That is the center point of the notch.

If this is incorrect someone please let me know and why.

Re: CHEAP build thread

thanks for the compliments guys.
since somebody decided my title was unfit and chenged it without saying anything im done with the build thread thing. its funny because somebody has a cheap bastard build thread and nobody changer his? i may stick around i may not, been lurking on here for awhie and like the resources but i would also like at least the courtesy of somebody telling me why the thread name got changed and asking if there was some more acceptable i would like for a name.

best regards people, hope nobody gets offended at my little rant because thats not the intent.

Re: CHEAP build thread

This is just one of those things you deal with when your on A free forum. Its created run and paid for by the owners so they are allowed to do as they see fit. That being said its a big site and not everything is seen. Dont let a title change drive you away.

As for the notch Ive heard that a 6" od pipe cut in half is what they use. and i would locate it by compressing the rear suspension till it hits the frame.
