Identifying rally wheels
Is there a way to tell the difference between the pre-72 6 lug rally wheels that won't work with drop spindles and the 73+ 6 lug rally wheels that will work with drop spindles (other than test fitting of course

Re: Identifying rally wheels
There are no pre 72 ralley wheels. I believe the first year for ralley wheels on the trucks was 1975.

Re: Identifying rally wheels
I understand. I thought I had read something that said rally wheels wouldn't work, but maybe it just meant that factory 67-72 wheels wouldn't work. Below are the wheels I have now, I don't think they are factory because when I bought the truck the guy told me he had just replaced the wheels and tires. Will these wheels work with drop spindles and no mods to the control arms?

Re: Identifying rally wheels
You will need to mod the control arm slightly.
I have these on my truck. 67-70 drum brake steel wheels will not work with disc brakes. You would need 71-87 steel wheels or any of the rally wheels.

Re: Identifying rally wheels
You have 6-lug rally wheels.
They come in 15x8 and the rare 15x7 size. Most stock steel wheels are 15x6.5 and take a hubcab

Re: Identifying rally wheels
Rallies on my 68,like those pictured. They have worked fine and I haven't modded the control arms.I've heard both ways so you may have to do a little grinding to allow full turns.

Re: Identifying rally wheels
Don't sweat the a-arm trim.
I've been doing it for 25+ years. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Identifying rally wheels
Just trim the minimum to make the wheel spin and turn lock to lock at ride height.

Re: Identifying rally wheels
Curious if the 15x7 version of my wheels still require a arm trimming. I like them just for the tuck factor.

Re: Identifying rally wheels
Is a 255/70 going to be too big for the 7" rim on the front with a 4" drop?

Re: Identifying rally wheels
You might want to go with something more like a 225/70 in the front and a 255/70 in the rear. The trimming you need to do to the a-arms is very minor and not structural. It wont result in failure if you take off the small amount you need to stop the rubbing. Take your time and grind a little off and try again, then grind off a little more. Its easy to do.
