What if Cadillac built a SUV in 1965?
The wife is pregnant with our second daughter and it's got me thinking about a family hauler... So, I want to build something cool. So, here's my thought process: either do a "Escalade" or "Denali"...
1965 suburban - 1960-61 grill - 63+ gmc hood but remove center V to smooth it out - 18-20" wire wheels with a thin whitewall. Bag it, 5.3/4l60. Interior - gut a 03+ Denali or escalade seating, two rows of buckets, front/rear air. Keep the stock dash though... This is an exercise in what if at this point... But I wanted to see what you guys can add to it. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: What if Cadillac built a SUV in 1965?
That sounds like a cool idea. the biggest thing for me would make sure that it is safe and reliable.dont see why it wouldnt be if you use late model prts and assemble it all corretly.go for it.I bet you could build it for less than a new escalade. in 4 years it wouldnt have depreciated as much either.

Re: What if Cadillac built a SUV in 1965?
Lol, true. 03 escalades in good shape r $8-10k. This wd b way cooler for ab the same money if it doesn't have to b perfect. And yes reliable, that's why the 5.3/4l60 is important. I want something the wife "can" drive if need b.
But, here's a better question, what would Cadillac have named a SUV in 1965? Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: What if Cadillac built a SUV in 1965?
I've also thought a '60-'62 Caddy grille would look good in one of these 'Burbs

Re: What if Cadillac built a SUV in 1965?
That sounds like my build!
Well, mine is more of a Cadillac V series rather than an Escalade.

Re: What if Cadillac built a SUV in 1965?
sounds like a cool build but I think you may want to check with your wife more than with us. I say that because women like things that make them look good to other women. contrary to popular belief only the dangerous girls want to look good to men besides their husbands. This is why women buy camaro and mustang convertibles with V6s, they dont care whats under the hood. The 65 escalade may cost less or as much to build and hold its value better than a 2005 escalade, but I know which one my wife would want to drive. Maybe you know your wife better.
also, it has three rows, true, but putting a kid in a car seat in a two door sucks, we did it for about 3 weeks with a two door car and bought a four door. Just my cruddy opinion worth about what it cost.
