Hatch handle dis-assembly help please
I'm trying to dis-assemble my hatch handle so I can install a new one and can't get it apart. I have the instructions by LockDoc from last January, but he starts out with the arms piece and spring already removed and that is where I'm stuck. I cannot get the spring and arms piece off the handle shaft. I tapped on it. I tried a puller. It appears to have a "c" clip (retainer), but it ("c" clip) won't move and looks to be part of the rest of it that holds the spring. Does anyone know how to go about this? It must be something simple because it will not go thru the hole in the hatch with this piece on the handle shaft.

Great question as I remember beginning to look into the same issues years ago. Now I have the Blazer back in my possession (After 11 years), I need to begin disassembly.
You happen to know any who rebuilds hatches as well as the handles as you meantion? If I find out anything during my searches, I will PM you, thanks. |

Re: Hatch handle dis-assembly help please
I'll post up a drawing of a hatch handle, as far as someone to rebuild your hatch you can do that yourself if you have some skills, if did mine myself. i'll post a link to that and you can look it over. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...26#post4550326

Re: Hatch handle dis-assembly help please
Thanx bentblazer. I have the parts sheet but it's a little hard to read. I can see I'm missing a couple parts. I have mine completed except the handle. Still need to get the spring and rod(s) bracket off the handle that I acquired so it can be installed. It won't fit thru the hole in the hatch with the bracket and spring on it. And I am missing the bracket that supports the handle shaft. Maybe someone else will chime in here and help me out.

Re: Hatch handle dis-assembly help please
I'm guessing that what you have now looks like the first pic, but still in the bracket. There should be a clip holding it to the bracket, you can see that clip in the second pic.(Lightly rusted looking area above black washer) The handle in the second pic is a garage door handle and the round black washer holds it in place. I used this instead of a cotter key, was just easier. If I remember all you should have to do to remove the handle is remove the cotter key that runs througt the square shaft and handle should pull out, if not it is likely rusted to the cylinder it runs through.

Re: Hatch handle dis-assembly help please
What I'm dealing with is exactly like the first pic. I need to separate the spring and bracket from the handle shaft. The part I need is like in the second pic that holds the shaft it would be the part with two nuts shown holding it in place. jaros44sr, if you have that part, PM paypal payment info - - - and thanx

Re: Hatch handle dis-assembly help please
jaros, there is just a small c-clip that holds the 90deg bracket on it. If it still has the cotter pin in the handle shaft, you likely have to remove it too.

Re: Hatch handle dis-assembly help please
Works for me. Let me know if you get it out. That was my original problem - couldn't get the spring off. (my handle with spring is not installed in the hatch)
