flywheel issues
Can any one tell me what are the noises, or signs of a broken fly wheel?
I was driving, came to a red light, my truck turn off for the first time, struggle to turn back on, finally it does, put it on drive, and it shakes, than I loose power as in the motor is not moving the truck, the engine is still on... Try to turn it on, but I get a bunch of metal snapping noise.... Any advise on what to look for.. thanks to everyone for the info Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: flywheel issues
Could use some more info on the eng/trans.
What do you mean by engine is "on" Is that running or the ignition switch is on, but engine not running? IF you are running a 700R4 trans w/ lock up converter, the lock up solenoid maybe isn't releasing the converter on downshift. That will load the engine hard at low RPM and cause stalling. Just a guess with the info you gave. |

Re: flywheel issues
For one, it sounds like you have some ignition/fuel problems that are causing the engine to run poorly.
If you are turning the key to the start position while the engine is still running (rotating) then you are engaging the starter bendix drive into a rotating flex plate/flywheel and that is causing that "metal snapping noise" you are referring to. Be careful doing this as it will damage the flexplate/flywheel. |

You may be on to something Tbone. Reading his previous threads he is asking about a shifter for a 700r4. If he has the convertor wired up something could be going out causing the lock up function to stay locked up under low rpms.. |

Re: flywheel issues
I've had a couple of things happen to me over the years. The bolts to the torque converter came loose once & caused issues like you're talking about another time the flexplate cracked where the torque converter bolts but that made a clicking noise while idling but went away while under power. I got mad and taught the car a lesson by welding the torque converter to the flywheel. No big deal though, a few months later Irolled the POS car &totaled it. Ahh, the good old days when you could buy a beater for a $100.00 and just have fun.

Re: flywheel issues
The engine stays on for a good 5 min, than it dies. It turns over, but As its doing it, the metal cracking/breaking noises happen. If I keep trying it, the engine turns on, place it on drive, shakes than I loose drive power. It is a 700r4. After I put in the shifter its been driving fine till yesterday night...

Re: flywheel issues
I'm not engaging the starter while the engine is on... From a dead state, I try to turn it on, as its turning the "flex plate, the breaking cracking of metal happens, if I keep doin it, the engineering turns on, place the truck on drive, give it gas, shakes than I loose drive power my engineering than dies....
