Lowering my 82 Sierra
I'm looking to lower my 82 GMC Sierra c1500 4/5. Does anyone know if they used 1 inch or 1.25 inch rotors on these trucks?
Also, would it be best to do spindles and springs combined for the 4 inch drop in front instead of just 4 inch drop springs? I want to be able to get a good, straight front end alignment. I'm going to do a 5 inch flip kit in the rear. I will be using 15x8 wheels in front with 4 inch backspacing and 15x10 in rear with 5 inch backspacing. Thanks guys. |

Re: Lowering my 82 Sierra
They used both 1.0" and 1.25" rotors on these trucks, and best to measure to make sure you get the right spindles. Just have to pull the wheel and measure the rotor thickness.
I would suggest 2.5" drop spindles and 2" springs. The spindles are a good way to go and will offer the best ride, since only 2" springs will be needed to make it a total 4.5" drop in front. The flip kit in the rear will work great. It will be about a 5" - 6" drop. McGaughys has a kit that is 4.5/6 and has everything you need, including the c-notch. They are quality components at an affordable price and adding shocks is an additional $198. The kit runs $570 without the shocks. http://www.azproperformance.com/McGa...150-93151.html Travis |

Thanks, I'm not sure If I can fit a 255/60/15 in front with a 4.5 inch drop or not.

I have 245/60/15's on the front of my 74'. I have 5" of drop on the front and have plenty of clearance.

I have long tube headers on my truck, and I'm trying to figure out how low I can go without them being too low to the ground. |

Re: Lowering my 82 Sierra
I was planning on using this 5 inch drop on the back.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dj...olet/model/c10 I'm not planning on notching it, I don't haul heavy stuff in my truck, and from what I've read you can lower 5 without a notch, but over that and you need a notch. Are the red pieces pictured in that kit, shortened bumpstops? |

Re: Lowering my 82 Sierra
You won't need notches with a 5" rear drop. Just cut your stock bump stops off.
I do not have headers. I have stock manifolds. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Lowering my 82 Sierra
Not for sure on the headers, but you won't need a c-notch if not hauling heavy stuff in the back. The c-notch included in the McGuaghys kit is just to cover all bases in case somebody does. Just extra clearance in case it is needed. With a light or unloaded bed, you will be Ok without.

Re: Lowering my 82 Sierra
I think I'll be alright when it comes to the headers. It looks like about 9-10 inches of clearance.
Also, does my rear suspension look stock to you guys? |

Yeah, maybe I'll be ok just dropping 4 inches in the front. Great looking truck you got.

Re: Lowering my 82 Sierra
I've noticed that depending on where my truck is parked, changes how much clearance I have between the headers and the ground. I was measuring today on a fairly flat surface, and it looks more like 6.5-7 inches of clearance.

Re: Lowering my 82 Sierra
I have a pair of 2" front drop springs, (less than 200 miles on them) looking to swap for stock coils.
where are you located? |
