On a rear barn door like that I'd use it for tailgating. Then again, I'd make a beefier version that was thicker, had a retractable but thicker cable that unwound from inside the door, and that had a pair of swing out arms to reinforce underneath the table flap when opened, but folding flush when closed... or perhaps just slotted brackets you latch into the door like slot shelving or pegboard hooks before pulling the table top down after welding a thicker piece of metal inside the door to reinforce the skin and prevent bending/bowing.....

I could see it used for tailgating, but that particular method looks way to flimsy to me. Not a bad idea though if you beefed it up like you said.
