Re: 83 air over leaf shock placement?
The only way I've seen a Ride Tech style kit done was to flip the bracket on the rear end like the driver side & use a stud on the frame. The shock comes close but will clear the frame. This still requires cutting & re-welding the bracket to the housing.
When I did my 74, I made my own AOL system that didn't require relocating the shocks but I fabbed my own upper bag brackets & welded them to the c-notch/frame.

Re: 83 air over leaf shock placement?
When I did my AOL, I had to relocate the lower shock mounts, since when the axle came up and hit the bed floor, the shock would hit the frame. The shocks don't go straight up and down, and are slightly angled. So, I left the drivers side angled to the rear, and re-drilled the frame on the passenger side in the same spot as the drivers. This allowed both shocks to go rearward. To eliminate the shock hitting the frame, I welded a shock mount onto the lower spring plate. It now barely clears the frame, but does work.
This kind of shows the lower mount. |

Re: 83 air over leaf shock placement?
On my 77 I had Roger duplicate the rear mount on the opposite side. Unfortunately I don't have any clear pics to show what was done. He removed all the stock mounts and reused what he could to replicate the stock mounting point on the passenger side.
