This Blazer is worth what?!

Hi folks,

Well I have gotten myself into a predicament. I have come across a Blazer it seems like i almost can't afford to NOT buy. But before I try and break the news to the missus, I thought I would double check with my truck addict sponsors here to make sure I'm not just in lust.

This is the girl

This is the guys ad:
The vehicle is 100% reliable. You could get in it and drive across the country with confidence. Everything works on this vehicle (except the AM radio).

This Blazer is 100% solid. It is rust free, with solid floors, doors, undercarriage, and fenders.

This vehicle is 100% stock. It has not been modified, beaten on, or off roaded.

I recently did a bunch of maintenance to make sure the vehicle is safe and good to go. I replaced all of the brake items just to be sure. Here is a list of key items.

-Inspected this month
-New master cylinder
-New vacuum brake booster
-New front calipers (both)
-New front brake pads
-New rear brake drums (both)
-New rear brake shoes
-New rear brake hardware
-New rear brake wheel cylinders
-Complete brake system bled
-New wipers
-Newer tires (with in the year)
-Newer battery (with in a year)
-Old cracked seats were upgraded with newer Chevy Blazer seats out of an 1989 Blazer
-New headlights
-Oil change
-Chassis inspected, all steering and suspension components are tight and in good shape
-Previous owner was fanatical about protecting this vehicle. Frame and under body has been treated annually with rust protectant. If you inspect below the rust protectant layer you will find the underside and frame are solid, and still have the original paint on them.
-Rear crank window and tailgate works 100%
-This came as a full time 4x4, but the previous owner has had warn locking hubs installed so front end can be unlocked for better mileage and less wear
-The transfer case was converted from full time 4x4 to part time 4x4 in the eighties by Nash Engineering

-This vehicle is not a showpiece. It shows the wear and tear of its age, and many layers of rust protectant. The great news is all that protectant has left this an original 1978 survivor that is solid.

-Heat works great!
-This is the best vehicle in the snow that I have owned!

-Chevy 305
-2 Barrel Carb
-Automatic
-4x4
-With locking hubs
-Part time 4x4 transfer case
-Manual windows
-198k miles, but it drives like new.

The 64 dollar question, how close is it to YOU guys to being worth the asking price of $2750? I am sure I could get him to go down to $2500 since I carry a roll of Franklins with me when I buy a truck. If I could get him down to $2K or even $2250 I think I'm going to have to go for it.

Thoughts?

sure sounds good, would prob be sold already here
my 79 was oil sprayed lots but still has some spots
check the rear crossmember in front of the tank
and the frame gap - between rear upper shock mount to body mount
the upper shock mount creates a pocket for dirt n salt

Re: This Blazer is worth what?!

Thanks, John.
I'm surprised it has been floating around craigslist for a few weeks. At first I shrugged it off but it's been weighing on me lately more and more.

Great tips on what to check out--thanks! I would make this a DD for a while, until I could find a one ton running gear to put under her.

Anyone else?

nothing is 100% rust free, especially with running boards. i would check it over pretty good before throwing out an offer. also, 198K on a 305 is pushing the limits, factor that into your offer as well....

Good points! But looking, I see full rebuild kits for this motor go for just a touch over 300 bucks. Plus I have a 78 3/4 ton that could always surrender its 454 for an period of time.

So I guess I'm just wondering what you guys would pay? I know I want it, but I also know I want a good deal.

A clean (well seems to be) blazer like that up here would sell in a matter of hours..( I'll buy it.)

@2750 probably could be had for 2200 or 2300. Good deal.

Re: This Blazer is worth what?!

I've seen his last couple ebay auctions and been tempted too, but that repaint scares me esp with the running boards.

You can see if you look close the bodyline down, then curving forward over the bumpers are repainted.... exactly where you'd expect to repair lower front fenders, lower rear fenders, rockers, wheelarches....

I'd check it out in person with a fine tooth comb, problem with "undercoating" is it can be used to mask small area issues like the seatbelt attachment points with a cheap patch under it when the larger floors were still ok....

Re: This Blazer is worth what?!

btw: if you do go for it, the listing this time around is 1900 no reserve and a buy it now of 2500... considering they charge a couple hundred final value fee, $1700 cash in hand might take it home....

I didn't know it was on ebay, I thought you could check it out locally.
