New Guy from NC
My name is Nick. I grew up in California and spent my teenage years in the San Fernando Valley. I cruised Van Nuys Blvd. in the late 60's early 70's. Always been a car guy. Anyway I live in North Carolina now and do car restoration work. Mostly do metal work and fabrication. I am self employed and have a shop at my house. I worked in NASCAR for a while as a fabricator, that was many year ago. I currently own a 57 Nomad and a 65 truck I bought back in the summer. Truck is V8 Automatic, power steering, power brakes 88000 miles. Only plans for right now are to change gauge panel from idiot lights to factory gauges with tach. Truck is real nice with virtually no rust. The front fenders were patched recently and poorly done. I recently bought a pair of NOS replacements...

Re: New Guy from NC
Beautiful truck and welcome. I have a 64 short/fleet myself. You are in a good place as there are many good people here that are willing to help when needed.
Which Nascar team didi you work for? I worked with Randy McDonald Motor Sports for a few races back in 2003. That was a lot of fun but also a lot of work. Might I ask, where did you get your NOS fenders and is there more available. Have fun with the truck. |

Re: New Guy from NC
Welcome to the forum. Always glad to see more NC trucks here. Good looking truck and sounds like you have all the tools and qualifications to get the job done. Your truck looks killer already and has some nice options.

Re: New Guy from NC
Bought the truck in Whiteville, NC about 4 hours away. It was posted on Craigslist. I was the first one to look at it. The seller had 4 calls about it while I was there. I worked for Richard Childress back in the Ricky Rudd/Piedmont Airline days. Also worked for Roger Hamby.
I posted on Craigslist for fenders and a guy called. I bought the pair in boxes for $1000. I am pretty sure the guy bought them the day before from Craigslist for $500. I found an ad that had pictures and the boxes that looked the same (duct tape). Daves Truck parts in Claremont, NC had a pair he priced at $2000 firm... Re: New Guy from NC
I looked everyday, probably at least an hour or more on internet. I even bought a 57 Big Window truck from South Carolina. In North Carolina when you buy a truck/car out of state DMV must inspect it. The VIN had been removed when it was painted and riveted back on. NC DMV did not approve even though it matched title and frame numbers. They wanted to remove factory VIN Tag and give it a state ID number. I sold it since I did not want a Chevy Truck with kit car decal...
I actually ended up with a really nice truck that I don't have to do much to. It runs like a champ... |

Re: New Guy from NC
Welcome to the forum. Those must have been well maintained 88,000 miles. Mine had 100k on the clock when I bought it, and it certainly didn't look that nice. Love the color combination and the originality.

Re: New Guy from NC
Story was the original owner died and wife kept it garaged (around 20 years) and eventually gave it to grandson who had it repainted and only drove it occasionally.

Re: New Guy from NC
Hey Nick
glad to welcome you to the forum and to NC. I have been a member here for a while and mostly just look and read without posting much. I think you will find the guys here are FULL of info and all seem to be happy to give help or ideas when needed. When I saw your post I thought cool another guy into the C10s in NC but never thought it would be here in the small town of Mocksville. Anyway welcome and I will look for you at the Monday night cruise in downtown...... jamie |
