what is every one with bags running for air systems
Just put static bags in my 66. So I'm wondering what everyone with bagged rigs is running for tank and compressor setups. thanks.

Last time I used a small Thompson compressor and 5 gallon tank. This time I am using 2 Viar comps and a 7 gallon tank.

Re: what is every one with bags running for air systems
I'm using a Viair 480 compressor and a 5 gallon tank. I will probably add another tank and compressor one day though because after I lift the truck up once the compressor has to fill the tank again before I can lift it again.

Re: what is every one with bags running for air systems
engine driven compressor, 5 gal tank. I have had 8 airbagged rides and the last two had EDC. electric compressors are ok, but I am never going back, fills a dead empty tank in 2 minutes and you have enough air to drive in 20 seconds.
I also run manual valves, its pretty uncomplicated. I have used all kinds of valves, SMC, Blitzluft, manifolds from ART and AIM, and the manuals give me the least problems. the only drawback is the speed.

Re: what is every one with bags running for air systems
i dont have an answer for that , accuair manifolds
are all that i own or my shop installs anymore , its been close to 3-4 years since ive done a brass valve setup , its just saves alot of time on install and no worrys about leaks but in 1997 when i bagged my blazer i used master image customs manual valves then Posted via Mobile Device

Re: what is every one with bags running for air systems
I bought up all the old school manuals I could find but littl larrys still makes them new
you can also buy firestone manual paddles for about $14 ea but they are only 1/4 and pretty slow, even by manual valve standards.

Re: what is every one with bags running for air systems
ok ... so i dont get it ? why would u pay 360$ for manual
valve setup ? accuair is like 50$ more , i think u would spend the extra in air line to get it in and out of the cab not knocking anyones choice but ... i been down the manual route and dont plan on going back Posted via Mobile Device

I have had all types of electric setups. manuals are simpler and more reliable.

Re: what is every one with bags running for air systems
i paid 380 for the accuair manifold , the controller is 300 but u can use regular switches
its like 2k if u run the e level setup , we were talking just valves i can put electric valves in for the same or close to as manual valves Posted via Mobile Device

Re: what is every one with bags running for air systems
Its super cool ou got a good deal on the accuair manifold but for everyone else its still 500, and you still need check valves and a switchbox.
you could buy electric valves cheaper, yes, figure 33 ea for 8 3/8 SMC electrics is about 270, you'll still need check valves and a switchbox, and speed controllers if you arent happy with the fill or dump speed. The little larry valves dont come with output fittings, BUT they are 3 way valves so you only need inlet and outlet, the electrics will need some tee fittings between. Not getting nitpicky, but its the nickle and dime stuff that makes it an apple to apple (total cost of manuals v total cost of electrics) instead of apple to orange (cost of 4 manuals vs cost of an electric manifold or 8 individual electrics) If you are happy with electrics thats great, but not everyone will get an accuair for 380. not everyone will want 6-9-16 switches when 4 will do. for daily driving I want it simple, my choice is manuals. I like that I can vary the speed up or down as I feel like it, something you cant do with electrics.

Re: what is every one with bags running for air systems
I only have bags on the rear so I installed a tank with one valve and a 2 way switch, 2 schrader valves, keep air in the tank, adjust as needed. Inexpensive and it works. I of course do not have a slammed truck. Kieth

Re: what is every one with bags running for air systems
Do you have a build thread or a thread with more info on your setup? This sounds exactly like what I want to do...

I did mine this way to keep the cost down, after I finally get the ride height settled where I am going to keep it then it can be easily changed to a more complicated system. air tank on side of frame 1. 1 line coming in from a schrader valve (located on rear lisc plate bracket) this line allows the tank to be filled up from a compressor (in my garage) 2. coming out of the tank 1 line coming out to a air control valve(12v electric operated (normally closed----opens when toggle switch is lifted up this adds air to the bags and raises the truck) 3. inline behind the 1st valve is another 12v valve that is used to let air from the bags (when the toggle switch is pushed down it exhausts air--lowers the truck) 4. also in line with the line that contains the 2 valves is another schrader valve that can be used to add air to the bags in case of you need to air the bags up manually. If you will send me a PM with your phone number & email I will take some shots of it this weekend on my iphone and send them to you. Kieth here is a link to my build , this link only shows the bags as we installed them initially, later we took out one set of the cages...... http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...3713&k=s6rzRrs |
