Rust Preventive Paints

Alright so I'm getting ready to take care of some surface rust that's in the cab of my truck, I know there's 2 brands that seem to be pretty heavy into which would be Por-15, and Rust Bullet.

I just would like to know if you have tried either of them what was your experience with the product and how it's holding up current day and also just get some advice on the product to go with.

thanks guys!

Re: Rust Preventive Paints

I've brushed Por-15 on the floor pans of my '65 El Camino about 6 years ago. The floor pans had some rust, but not enough to be replaced. I recently laid down some Dynamat in the cab and I don't see any new rust coming through, so I would say it works pretty good.

Did you sand them down any or you just brush the Por-15 over it? Reason I ask is because I was told I should sand down the affected area and then put the Rust Preventive Paint over it.

Re: Rust Preventive Paints

Get rid of most of the loose stuff. POR likes to have something to bite too. I have used it on many trucks and I have not had any rust come through yet

Re: Rust Preventive Paints

Okay, well as I plan to do the whole inside should I have it down to bare metal in areas that are not rusted? Also is it safe to be painted over? I mean I plan on dynomatting the truck at some point during my build just wanting to know if it would hurt it any.

Re: Rust Preventive Paints

I have used both products, and would use either one again with out hesitation.

Just go for which is on sale, and don't look back.
