Re: Need Help slammin a 61 Apache!!
Not a great pic but heres my 60 2 1/2 dropped spindles disc brake convertion with 4" drop coils in the rear. I also turned the torsion bars and lowered it maybe 3" more. Bottom of the bolts on the torsion bar is about 4" from the ground... running 7" smoothies 6 lug. you might have a rubbing problem with the 10" need to check..

No they are 7" smoothies from (Wheel Vintiques)... and you are correct - stock wheels will not clear the calipers...

Re: Need Help slammin a 61 Apache!!
I had 2.5 inch drop spindles and the torsion bars lowered 2 inches and that worked fine. the nice thing about torsion bars is you can always go back up. make sure you count how many times you turn the bolts and remember it takes a little driving to get them to settle. A 5.5 inch drop in the front and 4 in the back will give you one heck of a rake. I think you can go as low a 5.5 in the back without notching the frame but you will need to get rid of the bump stops.

Re: Need Help slammin a 61 Apache!!
Going with Porterbuilt front, but took the bump stops out up front. The rear has bags and won't go lower with out two piece driveshaft, bumpstops keep the shaft from hitting. No spindles yet but when time comes it will. Look at projects and builds for pictures and my cardomain page as well.

Re: Need Help slammin a 61 Apache!!
I too bought the 2.5 inch dropped spindles and 6 lug disc brake from CPP and kept my torsion bars. Rode it for a while with rear coils that I lowered with torch but later sprung for the 4 in drops and improved the ride. Threw on a dual diaphram master/booster also and sway bar. Good thing about the torsion bars is you can lower or raise the front with ease for a wicked rake. Been running this set up since '01. I started to swap the front suspension for coil springs but I think im gonna hold on to what I have. I plan on bags as well but don't intend to slam it to the pavement. Been pleased so far but want a more of a 'cadillac' comfort ride in the near future..
