Starter harness 61 GMC wire ID
I have a 61 gmc and I didnt have any underhood harnesses so i pulled from other trucks and put one togeather but I am having problems with my starter ignition power harness. Im wondering about the 5 blade plug on the passengers side, I have a light green, dark green, brown, wire and a largeer (about 10ga) red and purple wire. I have the red wire for powering my ignition and the feed from the starter and the purple to engergize it, obviously i have it scerwd up, i get nothing when i hit the key, any help would be great!

Re: Starter harness 61 GMC wire ID
make sure the purple wire is on the inside terminal (close to eng) on the solenoid. and you have power to your ign s/w.

Re: Starter harness 61 GMC wire ID
I currently have the purple as power to the solenoid, wich wire would I use to power the coil? or would it be just as easy to run a wire off the fuse terminal to run that?

Re: Starter harness 61 GMC wire ID
need more info--what distributor? points? still have a ballast resistor? the coil + becomes hot with key on (test wires) the out side term on the solenoid goes to the ballast res. so you get 12 when cranking. a gmc guy should chime in here???
