New here - my 55 Chevy S/S 4x4
Hello all -
New poster here on the board (lurking for a while), wanted to put up some pictures of my truck for my first post. I've owned this truck for about 21 years, and it belonged to a friend of mine prior to that, and another friend before him! About 30 years total "in the family". It is on a 77 frame, has a stroked 350 w/ T350 trans, NP205 xfer case, locker in the rear with 4.11 gears, 4.10 in the front. Power steering, brakes, windows, AC, etc also. Built by a friend of mine and I (thanks Chris!) over about a 3 year period. Frame is powdercoated. The paint was done by a friend, and is in need of some help. I'm taking in it to have it repainted within the month. Feel free to comment, critique, etc! (please don't be too harsh) Thanks for looking! Mark (aka GFY) |

It looks fantastic!
Really great work. (it looks so good in fact, that I thought the first was photo shopped to show what you wanted the truck to look like) What color paint are you looking at? |

Re: New here - my 55 Chevy S/S 4x4
Thanks, Mechanixman. It is 96 Suburban red. It will be the same color with repaint, just with better body work, better panel alignment, and without the orange peel, etc.

Re: New here - my 55 Chevy S/S 4x4
The paint looks good from afar, but far from good. There were some pretty serious "stretchmarks" in it, and a lot of orange peel. The person who painted it starting sanding it to fix some issues, and then decided to "close down shop". I now have a partially sanded and primered truck. The pics above were the truck at it's best.

Welcome GFY, great looking truck. What if anything did you have to modify on the 77 frame to accept the Task Force body? Do your wheels stick out past your fenders?

Re: New here - my 55 Chevy S/S 4x4
Your truck looks really nice! I Don't see any frame from the side. Did you raise the bedfloor some to get the body down closer to the frame? I'm considering doing my 59 very similar using a 76 frame I've got but its looking like several inches of body lift to keep the bed original. -Rick

Cool, now I'm challenged to figure out how you worked that out At a minimum, I think we need more pictures, and better yet, are you planning to do a build thread?

The tires are pretty well under the fenders. 35/12.50/15 BFG All Terrains on 8" wheel. Front tires are about 1.5" out of the fender, rears are inside the fender. |

Re: New here - my 55 Chevy S/S 4x4
I could drive that truck and grin like a Chessie cat. It nails Custom 4x4 task force truck right on the money. I'm not a fan of the three spoke blade wheels but I could survive with them on that truck with those tires.
Nice job, that will no doubt be the pattern for a few more. Now when did I see that rough but runs great mid 70's 4x on Craigslist for a right price.

Re: New here - my 55 Chevy S/S 4x4
Looking for wheel suggestions now (note this is a 77 1/2 ton 4x4 running gear). Any suggestions?
Back from paint, and on the road again (after a "short" 20 year build). |
