removing axles
first time removing axles from my 66 c10,getting drilled from 6 lug to 5?any suggestions?

Remove wheels, remove drums, pop rear diff cover, drain oil, remove cross shaft pin bolt, remove cross shaft, tap axles inward just enough to allow c-clips to drop out, then pull axles out.

While you have them out you might as well change the seals and maybe the bearings.

Most importantly, DO NOT rotate the differential gears(turn the driveshaft) once the cross pin is removed. If you do, you will have to realign the spider gears. It's not disastrous, but time consuming and frustrating.

I had the original axles on my 65 Suburban re-drilled to a 5 lug patter by Moser in the mid 90's. Simple enough process, just take your time.

finally got my axels back from cooks machine works in e.l.a.drilled to 5on5,cant wait to slap them on.yaaay

I would change the seals just because you have the axles out and they are cheap.
