They made me do it!!! (Forum driven projects)
Ok guys,
I was thinking today about my truck, like I always do, and something hit me.... I would have NEVER done all this crap to my truck, if it weren't for this forum!! I want to know what you did to your truck, only because you saw it on this site and thought "I GOTTA DO THAT!!!" My list goes as follows: Bags, C-notch's, HAD to find that elusive front windshield trim, Captainfabs p/s brackets, aluminum radiator...Oh ya, and doing a damn FRAME OFF RESTO because so many project builds inspired me so much!! Post em up boys!

Two things for sure on my truck, the spotlights and the Buick grille. The grille bar came directly from another members build thread. Probably a ton of other stuff I don't remember.

Re: They made me do it!!! (Forum driven projects)
Wow, where to start? I didn't necessarily get all of these ideas on the forum, but the information here helped me take the plunge!
Big back window conversion C20-C10 Conversion -C10 front cab mounts -6-lug rear end swap Correct black paint under grille Factory correct saddle poly colors '73-87 K10 factory 6-lug steel wheels Headlight relay mod 06 GMC seats with integrated seat belts and center console Custom install of GenIV Vintage air a/c system using factory controls 1 1/4" front sway bar installation Heavy duty rear drum brake installation from later k-10 Boyd welding aluminum gas tank Finally removing that pesky front transmission crossmember Ammeter to voltmeter swap in factory gauge cluster Engine mounted in forward position using 67-72 engine perches (next project) inside bed mounted spare tire carrier I'm sure there's more too. |

Re: They made me do it!!! (Forum driven projects)
Well, what started as a "budget" build has morphed into a frame off clean and rebuild. I must admit that although I've been tinkering with vehicles since the mid 70's, this is the deepest I've ever dug into one, mostly because of the confidence and motivation developed on this AMAZING board!!!
The Members are Awesome!!! The Wealth of Info is unmatched... Aside from those accolades, the FRIENDS I've developed here are the Greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is for everyone involved... Just my $.02 worth...

Re: They made me do it!!! (Forum driven projects)
I blame this board for my truck addiction , obsession ,or whatever you want to call it .What started as 1 truck being restored for 2 years now and I currently own 3 trucks along with my classic cars ,ya'll have ruined me .Im afraid theres no turning back. Ive added BuddtBuckets to my original truck ,didnt even know what they were before coming here ,bought a tach dash cluster and everything known to man from the parts board here .I never knew what all was available for these trucks until I got here .I had been playing with Chevelle's for many years before I got bit by the truck bug again so I knew what was out there for Chevelles but the truck thing is even bigger .

Re: They made me do it!!! (Forum driven projects)
Laying frame - I started out with a stepside with the idea that I was going to restore it to original - after several iterations the goal now is to be laying frame and having a sweet air management system- the forum definitely made me do it. The projects on here are definitely inspiring.

Now to answer the question. Here is what I can think of: Drop front spindles Recirculating heater leading to...... Clean firewall Going to bag the back end so I can play around with the front The best thing is I keep reading great builds and am now thinking of shaving the door handles and coming up with some weird custom tail lights. Just going to keep reading and adapt as I come across so many new ideas!

Re: They made me do it!!! (Forum driven projects)
I started with this- fully rebuilt and detailed rolling frame and a new crate 350 to drop in...
To this- junk 5.3 for mock up (eventually will build a LS2), T56, no suspension, and plans to autocross it thanks to the "Make it handle" thread. Tricks I've learned here include: Shortening the stock column. How to make tubular A-arms and adjustable tube rear trailing arms. That a small pipe notch is way stronger than a bolt in C-notch That I need better shock mounts. That a full length panhard bar is better. Found out about NoLimit's rack and pinion kit. Found the spindles I need for calipers with bolt on brackets. Someone posted improved alignment specs. More about what is and isn't correct for "correct" restorations. The original turn signal switches are terrible! Way more than I can think of off the top of my head... And.... that staying on here causes much more work in the garage to apply what I've learned!
