1954 3100, Help me decide between factory frame w/IFS & 4 link or S10 swap
I am getting ready to start my 54 3100 project and i am really torn between keeping the factory frame and adding a IFS front and 4 link rear to it or doing the S10 frame swap. I plan to bag it either way so either frame will require c-notched in the rear. I plan to use a LS1 engine and automatic transmission out of a 2000 trans am if that makes any difference. I am not concerned about the dollars involved i am just wanting to know the pro/con of going either way and which would be the more straight forward and or easiest to do. Thanks

S-10 swap is more of a budget choice imo. Front track width is narrow and rear axle must be changed anyways. Its a great way to go if you are on a budget.
If cost isnt the primary consideration, ifs on a stock frame is a better setup.

The s10 is cheaper but it also requires more fabrication work to mount the body. The stock frame is easier to throw a 4 link and IFS at but those parts are more spendy. I personally am staying with an original frame.

Re: 1954 3100, Help me decide between factory frame w/IFS & 4 link or S10 swap
I'm doing an s10 swap personally. Mainly because, like stated above, I'm on a budget and the original frame was already hacked up. I also liked the fact that I can use the motor, tranny, a/c, and a lot of other parts from the s10. I just want to get the truck on the road so I decided the v6 was plenty of power for me.

Re: 1954 3100, Help me decide between factory frame w/IFS & 4 link or S10 swap
I'm a fan of the stack frame with IFS, if budget allows of course. I've seen so many S10 swaps where the front wheels are way too close together. It looks weird.

Re: 1954 3100, Help me decide between factory frame w/IFS & 4 link or S10 swap
I did a stock frame with IFS and 4 link. The IFS I did was a breaze to install, easier than bagging an s10 (to lay right) I've bagged 5 s10's. As far as the rear goes the advantage of a s10 would be the bolt on stuff if that's the route your more comfortable with. S10 would be cheaper if done frugally and you build your own body mounts. If not then it'll be close to the same imo.
