15" Trim Rings for Stock wheel.
So I want to get some chrome trim rings but not sure what will fit. I have 62' 6 lug 15x6 stock steel wheels. I see there are stepped and smoothie. Not sure what that means. Also some don't have the clearance for the valve stem. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I'll take you some pics tomorrow. A buddy just gave me a set off his 70 Blazer. They fit perfectly on my 65 wheels.

Re: 15" Trim Rings for Stock wheel.
When I bought my sub, the seller had just installed some new beauty rings to add bling. I took them off and put them in a box the day I got it. I'm going to list them in the parts for sale section soon.

These are from Wheel Vintiques. They have a stem notch and clear perfect. I'm guessing "stepped" meaning ribbed like these.

Old thread but do our trucks use the 15" 1.75" trim rings? About to buy some and wanted to double check before ordering.

Re: 15" Trim Rings for Stock wheel.
I have used 1.75 and currently have 2" rings. Either way...go stainless steel if you can.

Re: 15" Trim Rings for Stock wheel.
Although this is an old thread, to clarify for the original poster and others that may have interest - the 3 most common styles were ribbed, stepped, and smooth.
Back in the old days the ribbed style was mostly associated with Fords form the 1940's, and until recent years were primarily available for 16" diameter wheels. The "smooth" style was introduced on the 1949 Ford passenger cars and remained popular into the early 50's. The "stepped" style was the GM version beginning around 1940-41 and remained in use until about 1954. Volvos 444, 544, and 122 models all used this style trim ring as well. Here's a photo of my 1954 Chevy back in the 70's wearing Volvo stepped trim rings: By 1955 trim rings of all styles were mainly out of fashion and replaced by wheel covers, in the 1960's chrome & custom wheels took over in popularity. A Google Images search on the above cars will clearly display the differences in the trim ring designs. Since about the 1980's, all of the designs have been available in sizes ranging from 13"-16", with some up to 20". It's now mostly personal preference what looks good, as few remember (or care) what was correct for a particular period.

Re: 15" Trim Rings for Stock wheel.
I once bought some aftermarket stainless rings. They made constant creaking noises as the went down the road. When I got tired of it and took them off, the teeth on the retainer clips screwd up the paint all aroumd my rims. Buyer beware right?

Re: 15" Trim Rings for Stock wheel.
Good point. You pretty much have to commit to wearing these even if you just try them on to see how they look. Those things on the back bite into the wheel/paint pretty good, and there's lots of 'em.
