Re: how far forward to move engine?(big block swap)

On mine, I added a th400 with the bb. The th400 to 250 adapter, moved the transfer case stick location by 1 inch. So I moved the transfer case BACK 1 inch, to keep the stick in the original location. My engine ended up being 2 inches forward from the factory v8 position. With a short water pump, a 2 wd fan shroud, and factory clutch fan setup, the fan blades are half in/half out of the shroud. Everything looks like came from GM that way!

Is you suspension factory ride height or do you have a lift. I'm curious about clearance between the engine x-member and front diff.

Turp, how much clearance between your valve covers and firewall do you have? Any pictures of it?

I do have a 6" lift. I extended my cross member by 2", so I could use a large factory oil pan. (6 or 7 quart) These are original, wore out springs, but with stock height, you may not have enough clearance. Here are a few pics. Lots of firewall clearance.

Re: how far forward to move engine?(big block swap)

I moved mine forward 2" also and seem to have plenty of clearance. I am also running a 6" lift, so the pan to axle clearance wasnt a problem.
