Cooling system ?
For starters, I'm working off this diagram and I'm running a modified '57 truck radiator.
It looks to me like I want to "T" the steam line in to radiator inlet or, if I must, add a nipple to the upper tank. It just needs to stay pressurized and let the steam collect at the top of the rad. The heater core I can plumb as usual but I'll need to adapt the 5/8 nipple to the stock 3/4 line. The pressure tank I'll delete, opting to run a normal radiator cap & line to a reservoir bottle of some kind. Does this all sound right? What have the rest of you guys done with the steam line? |

Re: Cooling system ?
I just add the steam line fitting to the original radiator tank and hook the line to it. Then the rest is just like the old truck was from the factory. No need to complicate the simple.

Re: Cooling system ?
If I'd thought of it at the time, I'd have had the radiator shop add a steam nipple while they were working on it.
Since I didn't, though, I used a sensor adapter Mishimoto MMWHS-32-BK Black 32mm Water...with a 1/4" barb fitting & put that in the upper radiator hose. It is important that this goes in the upper hose or directly to the upper tank and NOT the lower hose or anywhere else. The steam needs to travel up to the radiator cap in as straight a line as possible, or air pockets will be trapped in the motor and it won't cool properly. Also, note that in my first post I was wrong about the heater hose sizes. The '57 uses, stock, 5/8" line to and from the heater core. So I needed to use a 5/8 to 3/4 hose adapter + 4" 3/4 heater hose to adapt the LS to the '57. |
