Has anyone done a T-56 6spd swap?

I bought a t-56 with all the parts and even pulled the motor. don't think the motor is any good because the guy hit a pole and smashed it pretty darn good. anyways trying to pick some heads on info and pictures if anyone has done the swap. thanks

I'd like to find out about a T56 swap as well. I'm pretty sure the clutch needs to be hydraulic and that it uses a unique bellhousing and I think a different clutch and flywheel as well. I'd like to see what's been done as well.

A buddy of mine did one in a 72, you have to use a hydraulic clutch but other than that it is straightforward. Just remember though that it is a toploader and the shifter is right at the bench seat.

Re: Has anyone done a T-56 6spd swap?

MalibuKasey just did a T56 swap behind a small block using a LT1 T56. The LT1 T56 belhousing will bolt straight up to a small block or inline 6. I believe a conversion flywheel for a two piece main seal was needed to use the LT1 clutch/pressure plate. It does use a hydraulic system, not the old style mechanical linkage. He also moved the shifter up to the inspection port using a Keisler relacation kit to clear the bench seat. I'm not sure what all is involved with using a LS style T56, the input shaft is a different length and the bellhousing won't work.

TR65 has a great write up on the shifter relocation:

Here is the way I did the hydraulic clutch.

Good luck,

If you don't already have power brakes, I sell a power brake/hydraulic clutch conversion bracket for the '63-'66 trucks. It is basically the same as what I sell for the '60-'62's.
