Re: Route 66 Truck
I live on the longest single stretch of Route 66 left in existence here in Kingman, AZ.
You would not believe the cool old cars and trucks that come here to drive "The Mother Road" all year round. And if a guy has a keen eye and a fat wallet there can be many hidden treasures to be purchased along the way.

Re: Route 66 Truck
I live in Lake Havasu AZ. They have a 66 run every year from Seligman to the AZ/CA border. It's pretty neat, Hackberry is one of the stops. He has a lot of old stuff laying around there. Almost every little town on the journey has a few old cars to look at. Run is in two segments, Selgman to Kingman and Kingman to the border the next day. The srop in kingman is neat because you get to look at all the various cars participating in the run. A very eclictic group from steam driven to a real original Shelby.

Re: Route 66 Truck
Thats one of my goals when the panel is done. I want to go to drive every existing mile of Route 66. I want to start in Chicago and follow it all the way to Santa Monica. I figure it should take 2 weeks (once I get to and start in Chicago) to do it right. That is, if I ever get the truck ready.

Re: Route 66 Truck
Thats great John, man your boy is getting big sinse I last saw him.....we did the `66 trip back in 1967, I was 14, the traffic then was starting to fall off due to Highway 70 and 50 improvements, there was a lot of early iron sitting eveywhere, wish I had a camera then, proprietors were barely hanging on.

I live in Sapulpa, OK - Route 66 runs right through town. There's a huge Rt 66 Blowout and car show the first weekend each June. Folks come from all over, sometimes even overseas.

Re: Route 66 Truck
Next time I have job up in Hackberry, or maybe even before, I will stop and ask about that 62 if it is still there anyway.

Re: Route 66 Truck
My wife and I went from east of OK city last year to the CA line (Needles). She downloaded an app that had us on Rt 66 as much as possible. We also stopped at the Hackberry general store- love that place. A bunch of old cars were there while cruising the mother road.
My favorite places on Rt 66- El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, Blue Swallow Hotel in Tucumcari, any drive inn on Rt 66, Rt 66 diner in Albequerque, and the Rock Cafe in Stroud, OK. There are a lot of good eats and such on 66- such a great time. Last year we just drove as we wanted with no need to get anywhere anytime soon. One day, we did not burn a tank of gas. Hopefully, we will get the chance to do it again but in one of my trucks. That is my dream... |

Re: Route 66 Truck
There are 2 other 60-66 out back (not for public) that I've poked around but not for sale. I worked in that area a few times and always stop in there to chit chat with the owner. There's some old Ferds back there too which a buddy of mine was interested in ( he has a 60 4x4 short bed) but not for sale. That ol burro has a huge tumor on his ass and I can't believe he's still kickin! Next time I'm in the area, I'll photo bomb the not for public area!!!
