Starting on a Dropmember frame soon, need advice

Hi all,

I have a '68 LWB C20 and plan on the following:

-Porterbuilt Dropmember - front and rear(already have both kits) - weld in notches for the rear
-Drop spindles of some sort(do not have yet)
-73-87 upper and lower arms and brake components
-Plan to run 22" smoothie wheels, "Delmo specials"/Mobsteel, etc.

I should be getting my frame set up in the next month or so. My question right now is in regards to tire size. I'm not sure what size tire I should run once I do eventually buy the 22" wheels. I'm looking at throwing some 15" truck rally's on it, just for the purpose of setting the 4-link up and to get it rolling.

To sum this up, when I do get 22's for the truck, what size tire should I run? Also, what size tire should I put on a 15" wheel for now to set my 4-link up right?

Thanks

How wide of a wheel did you have? Any pics of it?

Pick the wheel & tire combo you want. That establishes your overall height. Then choose a 15" combination thats as close as possible. I'd do 285-40-22's on a 22x10 @ 31" tall. A 235-75-15 w/a 2" spacer under the rubber would be fairly close (28.8 + 2 = 30.8").

It all depends on personal preference, but that size mentioned is a good suggestion. Also depends on width of 22's you plane to run. Here is a members truck with 22's, running 305/40/22 on a 22x10 & 265/35/22 on a 22x8.5. If you did 8.5's all around, or something similar, that 265/35/22 is a good size tire.

Woah! Does anyone know what wheels these are? That's exactly the look I'm going for.

Re: Starting on a Dropmember frame soon, need advice

That truck looks great, I've seen it all over the internet..

I do plan on 22x10's for the rear. The back tires on the truck above do look pretty meaty, so I think the 285-40-22 would be a good choice. The 2" spacer idea is a good one also, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the input guys.

Scoti, good point..... it is important to use the same diameter tire when mocking up, as you plan to use on the final tire.

For now only 18s and 20s. 22s are in the works. I spoke to someone in their sales department and they said by the beginning of 2014 they hope to have 22s ready for purchase.

That looks ALOT like the 22" GM transport wheel.
The "triple lip" gives it away,...

Re: Starting on a Dropmember frame soon, need advice

Saw the new Delmo Specials on FB the other night. The thing I don't like about those wheels is that with a 6" backspacing they look akward in the rear and the triple step lip. (which has nothing to do with Del)

Re: Starting on a Dropmember frame soon, need advice

I didn't know Delmo was actually selling those lol. Does he sell 5 lug versions? And I have also heard that Mobsteel is working on 22's, by the time I'm ready to buy wheels I may even have a few more options.

Did Delmo originally use Centerline smoothies and modify them to accept the old GM caps? I haven't had a chance to research how that was done yet

Re: Starting on a Dropmember frame soon, need advice

The GM transit wheel in the picture above only comes in 6-lug.

In the past Del has used Centerline smoothies.
