nv3500 bolted to a sb400 ?
has any one else done this im currently doing it and seeing if any one else can point me in right direction as far as flywheel and clutches.
my truck is an 86c10 auto that im converting to hydraulic manual. any help would be great What i know so far because the 400 need an externally balanced flywheel i cant use my flywheel from the 350. the 400 flywheel is 11 in disc set up and the factory one is a 10 !/2 ? i think. thus ill need to find an 11 in clutch system that will fit the input shaft of the nv3500. also i either need to find or make a hydrolic clutch pedal assembly.

Re: nv3500 bolted to a sb400 ?
Pretty sure it should be a simple swap. Flywheel SHOULD fit. I think (its been a while since had my hands on one) the diameter and splines are the same as the older stuff. Even if it is different, you should be able to put 10 1/2 disc on the 11 pressure plate. Only concern I would have is how hard are you going to beat this? The 3500's aren't able to handle a lot of torque. Just don't want you to go through all of this and break it a week later.

The NV3500 is pretty fragile.

Re: nv3500 bolted to a sb400 ?
My s10 had the 3500 in it. Lasted 2 5 grand dumps at the track behind my cammed 350. Great cruiser but if you're gonna hot rod it AT ALL it'll break. But it should work and if ya get one with a 4.3L bellhousing it should bolt right up? Been a few years...

Re: nv3500 bolted to a sb400 ?
You can get an 11" clutch for either your truck or an S10/GMT400 platform truck that had that transmission in it. Centerforce sells one for the S10's I know and the pressure plate pattern is the same from what I've read. I'm about to start swapping one in mysef......

Re: nv3500 bolted to a sb400 ?
Fragile is in the application. The NV3500 will take 300ftlbs of torque so higher revving HP isn't a problem... Low range wheeling or towing heavy is where you'd get into trouble. In most applications you don't "need" the higher torque capability of the NV4500.
The flywheel has nothing to do with the input shaft. Your pilot busing is in the crankshaft and the splines engage with the clutch hub... Where you might run into trouble is the outside diameter of the 11" flywheel or the housing of the 11" pressure plate contacting the integrated bellhousing. The only way to know is assemble and do a rotational check. The pressure plate can be fixed by using a 10" clutch kit.
