Re: Title

You have the title? I would call the police dept. from the county where the title is registered to see if it was reported stolen. Then again if you bought stolen property, well, never mind..... I don't know of a site you could go to.

Re: Title

If it is signed over and you have it in hand there isn't much anyone can do. I wouldn't buy anything without a title but with a title signed and in hand there isn't much to worry about.

Re: Title

Unless it is a forged title... there was a story locally where a guy stole a car, posted it on Craigslist and met a couple in Portland later that afternoon where he produced a fake title and got away with cash. The guys wife was taking pictures of the car as they were talking and they ended up getting the guy based on the wifes camera phone photos.

Re: Title

Titles are issued by states so there are 50 different sets of rules.
Find your state's DMV website and read.

The stolen status and the title aren't likely to be related. The state or maybe the feds may have a list of VINs reported stolen.

From police shows, the stolen list is tied to license plates since they are visible.
