2002 5.3 need help troubleshooting
I have a wrecked Silverado, has been sitting for a while(4 yrs ,bought it is way). Just replaced fuel pump. Getting gas to fuel rails. Engine turns over normally. Does not fire.
When I spray ether into the throttle body it does fire, almost like a back fire. Just so u know, the front clip has been removed. This make easy access to the engine but there were a couple of grounds I had to attach. All the needed fuses appear to be good. My thoughts are maybe clogged injectors, but am also pondering that not ALL would be completely closed... Seems I would have some sputtering... Toss some ideas/suggestions out, please Rich Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 2002 5.3 need help troubleshooting
corroded plugs, worn wires, dead coil, coil pack ground not attached, clogged injectors or bad gas. FPR diagphram broken/not holding pressure.
Vacuum leak, internal pcm ground bad, or any of the wires not hooked up during the wreck or clip removal. How did it wreck and did it run/drive after the wreck? Need more info.

Re: 2002 5.3 need help troubleshooting
I was told it clipped a power pole, turned up on the drivers side with the engine still running.. Not sure if it was ran any after the wreck.
I do not have a fuel pressure gauge, but there is pressure at Schrader valve on fuel rail. those are good things to take a look at for possible problems. I do have a spare fuel rail from another truck, may swap that out... Don't think that will take very long Posted via Mobile Device

I pulled a couple of plugs, looked good but were dry... I was expecting them to be wet

Re: 2002 5.3 need help troubleshooting
I had to replace 3 of my injectors and clean the rest and my motor only set 6 months. I think it would just make sense for everybody to at least clean them as you install the motor.

INDIAN113, do you recall if yours sputtered or fired any prior to cleaning your injectors?
(at initial startup)

Re: 2002 5.3 need help troubleshooting
if you google it there is a way to use a modded 12v source to trigger the injectors while in the solution

Re: 2002 5.3 need help troubleshooting
Is there some sort of safety cut off that is triggered when these trucks roll over???
Yes, i know the prior owner said it was running while turned on its side at the time of the wreck......just thinking of possibilities.. What do you guys think? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 2002 5.3 need help troubleshooting
The ecm will cut power to the fuel pump if there is a rollover, or at least it *should*.
Now, I have no idea what the ecm sees in a case like that. I doubt there is some "lock" on the fuel system, but I could be misguided.

Re: 2002 5.3 need help troubleshooting
Ok guys, I didn't get as much done yesterday as I had hoped. House a/c is acting up. Had to chase parts for that (no major supply stores open on Saturday)
I did get the inline factory gas filter changed out. I bought some chemicals to clean the injectors with. Hope to jump on that today. But first I hope to check for fire at the spark plugs. Maybe I can get the wife to come turn the key while I watch for spark. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 2002 5.3 need help troubleshooting
There's nothing in the PCM that will shut off the fuel in a roll over. Fords have inertia switches but GMs do not. If the car is up side down there won't be any fuel to the pump and once whats in the lines runs out the engine will stop, and when the engine stops theres no crank sigbal and the PCM will shut off the pump.
I would get the injectors out and get them soaking since you may want them to soak for a while. I usually let them soak overnight. With them out tou can pull the fuel pump relay so you don't spray gas all over and then check for spark. But since you said the plugs were dry, my bet is the injectors. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 2002 5.3 need help troubleshooting
Ls1nova. Thanks for the input. I did verify I have spark. Then proceeded to remove the fuel rail, with everything still hooked up, I turned the engine over... Nothing came out of any of the injectors on pass side...Since I was excited, I proceeded to remove the wire and retainer clip from the front injector. Ok, you guys know what happens next, right? Yes, you guessed it. When I pulled the injector out of the fuel rail...instant fine spray of gas right into my eyes.
Ok that is behind me. I have a question. I have taken the injectors out. My question is how exactly have u guys soaked / cleaned your injectors. I have taken the lower o ring seal off. As of now, I have the lower/spray nozzle soaking in cleaner compound. I guess my question is, will this do the job? Should I immerse the complete injector into the cleaner. Shoul d I pour compound into the top of injector.? Your input is appreciated, since the sooner I get these cleaned the sooner I get hear this thing run Rich Posted via Mobile Device
