1963 GMC 1500 305 V6 Air Cleaner
Anyone have an original air cleaner and the carb bolts that hold it down? My truck didn't come with it and the PO clamped a bent all thread stud and a mickey mouse air cleaner that doesn't fit. Did it come with an oil bath cleaner, I have no clue? Is there another solution for that little 2 bbl?

It did have an oil bath or atleast mine does. It doesn't bolt on though it has a collar that clamps onto the carb and the clamp contains a suspended all thread that goes through the oil bath. Ill see if I have a pic

Re: 1963 GMC 1500 305 V6 Air Cleaner
All I have are a couple of pictures of what mine looked like, and it was a 1960. It went to scrap over 20 years ago so I don’t remember any of the details – if it was oil bath, how it hooked up, etc:

Re: 1963 GMC 1500 305 V6 Air Cleaner
Here's the horn it sits on that fits on the carb on my 62
Then the application itself And the final result (before I painted it) A simple butterfly nut and washer goes on the top to hold it all down. Wish I had a spare but the extra 305 I bought for parts only had an aftermarket air breather. They come up on Ebay from time to time or you could ask on the GMC boards http://6066gmcclub.com

The one I have looks like Pepsi's. I put a Holley 500 on mine so I don't think I can use it.

Re: 1963 GMC 1500 305 V6 Air Cleaner
It is a Mr. gasket adapter. Kinda cheesy but it does the job. I think it was $16-18.
Part# 720-1937 My truck had a metal spacer and a phenolic spacer. I think I'm going to try to put the phenolic back on to eliminate some heat to the carb. I want to look for a 500 shaped one instead of the Stromberg shaped one, or maybe both if they will fit? Posted via Mobile Device |
