Shift RPM's
Is there any advantage to raising the shift points in first and second,(higher RPM's) this is on a 2004 5.3 in a 78 1/2 ton.
Are there any other items besides the VSS and gear ratio- tire size that should be changed when re programing?

Re: Shift RPM's
A lot of tuners, or at least the ones that I have spoken with will raise up the shift points for wide open throttle, but will only change the shift pressures for normal driving, it's supposed to just firm the shifts up and prolong the life of the tranny

Re: Shift RPM's
The true answer to this depends on what tranny you have, what gear you have, what cam you run etc.
My 4l80e has a really long first couple gears, so raising the shift points under those loads wouldn't really get me anywhere. But for example if your giving it heavy pedal on the freeway from 3rd, and your truck is shifting early because the tuner kept it stock, then yes, there could be an advantage to raising the shift points. From a racing perspective, your redline and shift points are dependent on your setup as well. A truck motor with an aftermarket intake mani, cam, good flowing exhaust etc, could take advantage of a few hundred extra RPM's. The stock setup under the same conditions would have no need, since at the top of the sweep its starting to lose power in the high rev's

Re: Shift RPM's
Well the computer is back, along with the new harness so I guess I will live with what the programmer put in or took out.
I did ask to keep the purge connections so I guess I will need a charcoal container. Is there one better than the other or can I use anything?

Re: Shift RPM's
of all the things to keep in... does AZ break nuts about emissions stuff? The charc is really useless. Just run a vented cap or vent on the tank.

Re: Shift RPM's
No I don't think they care about evap can, "I" just thought it would be a nice thing to have as the garage stinks when I pull it in hot, and I thought this would help with less complaints

Re: Shift RPM's
Starting my truck in a closed garage would be paramount to an attempted suicide....so I get where your coming from. I removed anything that didn't mean more power.

Re: Shift RPM's
Did you alter the 4L60E and the torque converter?
