4x4 guys! Need help!

One of many things I am having trouble with at the moment is in order to get my computer programmed I have to know what kind VSS to use. I plan to use cruise control (factory) and have no idea where to start on VSS. What kind, location, brand whatever. I know I am planning on using the AA adapter to go to 4L60E to NP205. Help?!

Thanks guys!

Have them program for the stock VSS and the gear ratio and tire size that you will be running. The advance adapters 205 to 4l60e kit comes with the vss. It is the same as the stock vss except it threads in to their transmission to transfer case adapter. You will have to have the output shaft on the transmission changed to the advanced adapter's output shaft. You will then have to put a clamp on reluctor wheel on the new shaft and line it up with the VSS.

Oh gosh, I didn't realize there was a complete kit. The techs over the phone gave me a few part numbers and I wrote them down. I have not purchased anything from AA though. You don't happen to know the part number?

Here is the link to the kit that you need if you have a 27 spline 205. The guys at Advance Adapters are pretty much no help. If you ask 10 of them a question you will get 10 completely different answers. Dealing with them is frustrating as hell but there just isn't any other options

Re: 4x4 guys! Need help!

I purchased my AA adapter kit from a vendor on pirate4x4. He was much cheaper than What AA quoted me at $750. I paid $550 + shipping for the complete kit (50-5310) which included everything in the kit for a direct bolt up. Here is the website, but I would recomend going through pirate for a better deal.

Re: 4x4 guys! Need help!

Great info! Thanks a lot guys! Now since my tuner will not email me back after 2 days...was planning on using spear tech...any suggestions on a tuner? All I need is to make it stand alone. I am getting it on the dyno tune after its road ready.

No problem. I also used Speartech. Try calling John. When i had questions he always called me back within a day. If your engine is basically stock his performance tune should be fine without having to put it on a dyno.

Re: 4x4 guys! Need help!

I called 2 days ago. Just before I emailed. Do you think I should just send the ecm and a note of details? And he will let me know when he needs payment? He has a performance tune eh? My engine will be completely stock, that sounds like a good option. My main goal with this build is fuel economy after it is installed. That is not the reason for the swap, just the goal. My go fast personalty will catch up with me quickly I think.

I sent him my computer and original harness and he put his performance tune in it and made the harness standalone. I boxed everything up with a note of my truck info and contact info and then sent him an email that i had sent it out. It will come with a fuel pump relay, OBD port, check engine light and a harness fuse block. You will need to tell him what year engine, gear ratio, tire size, and any special requirements you would like such as cruise control, tach, electric fans or A/C. He called me when it was done and i gave him my payment info. I have it installed on my engine although it is not on the road yet I have test ran it many times and it runs great. It also comes with detailed instructions on how to hook everything up.

Re: 4x4 guys! Need help!

I had my harness done already by Current Performance. Now I wish I went with Speartech. The directions would have helped. I just need the computer programmed now to get a test fire.
