Unusual requests to use your truck...

I have only had my '63 since July, but she definitely gets a lot of attention and looks (it helps that she is bright orange!). In that time, I have had two young ladies in our neighborhood ask if they can use it in their senior picture photo shoots (orange is one of the school colors), and then last week I had an even more unusual request...I have a friend who works in independent film, and he knew of a film company who was shooting locally in KC who was looking for 60's era vehicles. He sent them a pic of my truck, they said it was "beyond perfect", so I drove the truck Wednesday to the filming location and they used it for two days of shooting. Not a big budget film or anything, apparently some union documentary, but still exciting.

I wondered if any of you had any similar experiences...where has your truck been featured?

Guy I work with is a big name in Utah for photography and had a contract to do a calendar for a strip club. He asked about using my Harley for the titty pics for that. He was also looking for classic cars and trucks in the area at the time since my truck wasn't driving.

Only requests I get are people asking me if I can help them move.

Re: Unusual requests to use your truck...

We had twin granddaughters in June, and the kids have asked if they can use my old truck for some fall pictures of the babies with hay bales and pumpkins and such. I am pleased to do it, just have to make sure I don't get things torn down too much since I need to keep it driveable to get to their picture location. Needless to say that I'm doubly proud!

That's another thing! I have never owned a car before that random people would ask to buy...I have had four people ask, two made actual offers that were well more than I paid for the truck.

Again, I'm just wondering if this is typical behavior around these trucks...I already want to buy another one!

I ended the MOVING day requests when I showed up with old motor oil spilled in the box of my old 62.

Re: Unusual requests to use your truck...

Never had requests to help people move, probably cause mine is a 1/2 ton. It's funny though, sometimes when I would be working on it people driving by would slow way down and slowly pass by staring intently at the truck but would never stop an ask if it was for sale. If they all did I would be on my 50th asker!

Re: Unusual requests to use your truck...

Had some pony-tailed yuppy stop buy and tell me to sell him my truck.
"It's not for sale" I said.
"Sure it is! Everythings for sale!" He said as he stripped of his fingerless driving gloves to dig into the pocket of his designer shorts, pulling out a really small wad of 2 $20's covering a bunch of $1's and $5's.
"Ok, you're right" I told him.
"Yeah! YEAH?" he said.
"Sure, how about 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS?"
'What are you doing? Are you crazy!?"
"No SIR, not at all. Just proving my point, it's NOT for sale"
....yuppies...

Epic. And crazy yuppies are one of the biggest reasons I have for moving from my current neighborhood out into the boonies...I can park my truck out there, let it leak oil on my driveway and no one will complain!

Re: Unusual requests to use your truck...

What impressed me, more than his horribly scratched up Ray Ban's...more than the so-dirty-they-were-shiny suede driving gloves..more than the 22" or so rims that were curbed half to death, and the bald tires he was driving on....was the ponytail soooo greasy it looked like hair colored clay, kinda wet, sticking to his back in a lump....and a get this, PINK, BRIGHT FRIGGIN PINK hair scrunchy!!
This guy just oooozed class. Nope, not class, he just ooooozed.
Oh, and he talked like a Soprano/Dennis Franz cross up!

Re: Unusual requests to use your truck...

No use requests but one offer to buy for mine. I stopped at the end of my road yesterday and a guy in an Audi pulled over across the street and started waving to get my attention. I gave a small wave back and got a thumbs up in return. He then mouthed "what year" and held up five fingers for '65 I assume. I held up six for '66. He then mouthed "how much?" and rubbed his fingers together. I shook my head NO and he waved and took off. I haven't had the truck long but that's one of the weirdest things so far.

Re: Unusual requests to use your truck...

I had some lady stop at my house and spoke to my dad about my truck, she wanted to know how much he wanted for that old truck? she said she was asking to give to her 15 year old son for his first vehicle. He said it is my son's and he wouldn't sell it. She said that since it didnt run she would offer $500......He said, lady it does run and drive and that his son has put more time and effort in the left rear tire than your offering, its not for sale!

this is what it looked like then...

Re: Unusual requests to use your truck...

Hauled a piano for a outdoor wedding in my 65 long step, nobody wanted to unload so the gal played the piano sitting on the side rail of the box with the truck sitting off to the side of the ceremony. Also use the truck for hauling car show supplies for the local car show. Truck will sometimes sit on the side of the road with a car show billboard on it. Hauled cheerleaders back from Homecoming party for my football player son.

A close family friend is an elected official and has asked to use Yeller in the Fall Festival parades this fall. Mag signs on the doors, candy hauler/attention getter. It's fun to do, and we all join in.

Re: Unusual requests to use your truck...

I was approached by one of the advertising guys from the local Chevy dealer about my truck and helping find several others. They are trying to get 1 year model from every year they can for a big Chevy show in the spring. Told him I could help with a 63, buddies 61, 65, 66 & 67. The want as original to possible...just not heavily modified so people can see the various changes through the years....thought it was unusual...but very neat.

1963C-10, I think that would be great to see, all the years of Chevrolet and how they evolved. Clyde65, that is a helluva story and I agree about the work and what it was worth, lol.

Re: Unusual requests to use your truck...

It remains to be seen if they can actually pull it off. I have enlisted the help of a few that had models they are looking for. I will keep the board posted if it looks like a go. We may need more trucks and more than c-10 models.
