horn relay/ cab wiring issues

Hi guys first post here on this forum. I have a 65 c10 that I am currently swapping a th350 trans into(originally 3 spd manual) I was underneath the hood and realized the black and white stripe wire that goes from the relay into the cab is totally burned up and destroyed. Upon looking underneath the dash its all burnt up into where it goes into some sort of connector on the steering column. Then theres another wire that comes out from there to the starter and thats half melted along with the battery indicator wirebeing burnt. My question is what would exactly cause this? I have the whole wiring harness unstripped of tape and I cannot find any shorts. Wires on the starter arent touching, could the relay have gone bad? The battery has been disconnected and removed since march when the original trans went.any info would be appreciated. Thank you.
