65 K20 Wheel Help

I need a little bit of help...

I bought a set of transwheel #1619 wheels for my 65 K20. My goal was to replace the split rims and original tires with radials.

(They look like these, minus the caps: http://www.wheelsandcaps.com/p-23631...6x65-1619.aspx)

When I was attempting to install them today I discovered the fronts won't completely bottom out on the hub/drum. They are extremely close to fitting but apparently the originals have an ever so slightly larger hub hole.

I took them to a local machine shop to have them opened up a bit. What I'm looking for is the dimension of the correct size hole to make sure he can get them right the first time. The original wheels are 17" split rims with 7.50-17 tire.

Can anyone help me out with a dimension to use or other info? I attached a pic of the new setup.

why not just get the right wheels if you bought them new. unles you got adeal on them.. your 17 should have been hub centric, n other word the rim fits the hub as a lot of those 17 used flta nuts on them. the later wheels do have a lrger hub hole as the are centric to the wheel studs and utilize a tapered wheel nut. so if you ordered wheels to fit your specific truck with the stock hubs on it you got the wrong wheels and you shouldn't be having to take them to a machine shop to get the hole enlarged, unless whoever supplied the wheels wants to pay the bill. it should just fit over that final lip on the hub; just measure it or take one of your 17 to the machine shop and let them measure it.

The dually wheels were hub centric; SRW 17" wheels are stud piloted. (My truck actually came with them) How much of an interference problem do you have, anyway? AFAIK the bores should be the same; never heard otherwise.* (I have 80's GM 16" wheels on mine now) It might just be a combination of burrs/rust/paint/etc keeping it from going on.

*Do note that the later wheels (1971-up IIRC) will be for 9/16" studs; which may potentially bottom out with 1/2" stuff (mine didn't) Ford wheels are larger bore, and I think Dodge was the same. (At any rate I think they all go over GM hubs IIRC) (And the really late model stuff is all kinds of metric nonsense, of course.)

Yes Ford and Dodge have a larger center bore. I would try to stay in the 80s early 90's. Late 90's everything changed to metric. Also check your backspaceing on potential wheels. I baught some mid 90s Dodge eight lug wheels so it would be easyer to swap out the old ones on my 84 Dodge. They fit great they just are right up tight to the tierods, so after you tighten the lug nuts the tires dont roll.

Thanks for all of the help and pictures! I agree at least part of the issue may have been rust and grit on the front hubs. I ended up taking less than 1/16" of material off and the rims fit perfect. I got some new lug nuts with a more substantial taper/ball and it went together perfectly. It definitely drives nicer!
