steering box help?

so i had all the suspension and steering off and now i've got the suspension back on and its time for the steering. i got a new steering box and i'm wondering how to get it set right. like when i have the steering wheel straight how do i get the steering box to where it is half way between locks so the steering wheel will be lined up with the box.

do i just count the turns from lock to lock in the steering box and then turn it out half of that from lock? that would get me close but i don't know how acurate i have to be. help me


p.s. i'm anticipating an interesting 10 mile drive to the alignment shop

the lock to lock idea sounds good. not that i have ever done it.. want to know about an interesting drive..... try driving when the steering box pulls a bolt through the frame.

Ryan, That's how I did mine. I just counted the lock-to-lock revolutions & divided them in half for the center. My only complaint so far is my steering wheel is just slightly off, but I think the alignment guy should have corrected that while doing the alignment (but didn't) & I didn't notice right away.
