Driveshafts??
What are you guys running for a driveshaft with your swap? I was planning on just having my factory 2-piece shortened and the input for the 4L60e added. Just curious if anyone had done anything different like ordering a 1-piece aluminum or anything along those lines.

Re: Driveshafts??
I'm interested in this information as well. I'm about to have my 2-piece shortened and a 4l80e/th400 yoke installed. I've considered going to a 1-piece aluminum but I think it will be more expensive.
I've searched our local u-pull with the hopes that I will find something long enough with a th400 yoke installed. That way I can have that shortened instead of having an all new shaft built. The only problem is that all the driveshafts are bent from forklifts moving the vehicles around.

Re: Driveshafts??
yea, Ive got a good driveshaft....but after the cost of having it shortened, a new yoke installed, and rebalanced, Im curious how that will compare to a one piece aluminum shaft. Plus the added simplicity of not having the carrier bearing.

Re: Driveshafts??
Had mine shortened, balanced, new u-joints installed. Little over hundred bucks. Also installed new carrier bearing.

Re: Driveshafts??
FLYNAVY, wanna switch yokes? I had a TH350 so my yoke will work with a 4l60E and I need a th400 yoke for my new 4l80e.

Re: Driveshafts??
I switched front yoke, replaced carrier, had it shortened and balanced for about $200. I looked into aluminum shafts, but no one would make a long enough one for my truck... I even offered to find a junk one from a newer truck but the shops I talked to wouldn't balance them if they were that long.

Re: Driveshafts??
The general consensus that I've seen around here, is that a 2wd LWB is too long for a 1 piece driveshaft. I'm sure someone will prove me wrong with their custom 5" dia deal, but for the most part, LWB trucks are better off with a 2 piece and carrier bearing.
I had a 4" 6061T6 driveshaft made for my blazer, with 1350 u-joints. Rated to 1500 hp

Re: Driveshafts??
I've got a thick wall shaft for mine. Setup for the 4l80e->12bolt, rated to 800hp, and it was cheap.

Re: Driveshafts??
I was surprised that my stock C-10 LWB steel 2 pc driveshaft held up to ~500 rwhp and MT Drag Radials.
The stock 250 I-6 put out 155 hp at the flywheel.....my turbo 5.3 was putting out around 600 at the flywheel...4 times the stock hp. Color me impressed. haha.

Hey, Income Waster, can you give the specs on those wheels? They look sweet on that chassis.

Re: Driveshafts??
So does the 4l60e use a standard th350 yoke? I dont have a drive shaft to start with for my 76 SWB. I have had a drive shaft made in the past for a project and that was a scratch built and over $300.00.

That said, it uses the same splines on the output shaft, with the 4l60e shaft being a tad longer (so it won't appear to go "in" ) all the way. 27 splines.

Re: Driveshafts??
I knew it was pricey, Bay Area pricing. It was the only shop in the area.
