LS Fuel System Thoughts

Its looking like no better time to do the lq4 swap into the '72 c20, and I've been brainstorming. Planning on using the tank out of an 87 blazer, along with the sending unit and an Aeromotive pump and a Corvette filter/regulator. Have any of you guys put the newer blazer tank into a 67-72?

Re: LS Fuel System Thoughts

I used an 87 blazer tank with a 1992-1995 s10 blazer 4.3 CPI sending unit with pump and a c5 regulator. Pump puts out 80 PSI stock. The tank cost me 78.00 new and the sending unit with pump cost me 85.00. With the c5 filter/regulator I had about 200.00 in the fuel tank system.

Re: LS Fuel System Thoughts

I am using a 89 blazer tank and replaced the TBI fuel pump with a new Airtex pump, is very quiet and can't hear it with the engine running. As for the corvett regulator, I did not need one. My 5.3 is a 2001 with the fuel regulator built into the fuel rails.

Where it is right now, yes, probably. You'd just need to shove that rear-most crossmember back. There's a good foot or so of room that you can slide it back yet.

Looks like the 25 gal is the same dimensions, except for an inch shorter. Dropped the gun on the Aeromotive 340 as well! Should know how it looks in a few weeks.

Looks sweet! Did you go with braided hose and AN fittings right to the fuel rail?

Re: LS Fuel System Thoughts

02 fbody tank here. gotta notch the bottom of the frame rails a bit and drill a hole through the frame for the filler but for 100$ bucks with pump salvage works like a champ and fuel pumps are cheap and easy to find if and when they go out.. update... you have to move the back brace rearward and remove the small brace that goes across the middle....

Re: LS Fuel System Thoughts

If you can hear a 255 over your engine, then your engine isn't loud enough! Externally mounted, that inline isn't noisy at all. Its not like an a1000 which sounds like a damn winch motor.

Re: LS Fuel System Thoughts

Just to update my 2013 post....the good thing about the fbody tank is that for less than 300 bucks you can get a racetronix 255lph upgrade with hot wire kit. Direct drop in and good for 600+ hp....I got my set up from lonies performance...!

Re: LS Fuel System Thoughts

89 K5 Blazer tank mocked up. At the pinch weld around the tank I have it shimmed down 3" with a piece of 3"x 3" angle so the sending unit doesn't interfere with the bed cross-bracing and I had to move the rear crossmember back a good bit. The bottom of the receiver sits just lower than the tank and the filler spout should run between the frame and bed nicely.

It is not permanently installed yet so this is all I have for pictures now.

so you actually had mount mount the tank a little lower to be able to mount the bed?

Because the sending unit is right on top of the tank and other design quirks, when installing the later blazer tank you have 2 options in order to make the tank fit. You either need to notch the bed support to almost nothing or lower the tank, I chose the latter. It seemed easier and placed the spout for the tank in an ideal location for routing without needing to cut notch the bed much.

Take a look at post 503 and later in this guys build. This is where I got the idea to install my tank from:

For reference, here is a picture of a tank that was not lowered and what he needed to do to it to make the tank and sending unit work.
