Re: automotive clear on bedwood
I have done several sets and it works great. Blow of the dust and shoot the clear to it, just be sure to do all sides.

I would like to see the final results. Haven't seen the ash in a bed yet!

Re: automotive clear on bedwood
Only problem with that is you have to account for the thickness of the resin. Each coat is like 60 coats of poly because it goes on very very thick. Finish is like glass when done right though. Check out my bowling alley island top in the Alternate Tinkerings forum for pictures.

Here's my bowling alley wood counter top for my kitchen island with poured resin coating on it.

Re: automotive clear on bedwood
I think resin tends to yellow in the sun.

Re: automotive clear on bedwood
Rock Maple in the approach and ball strike areas and transitions to pine or ash down towards the pins.
Any clear resin will yellow over time, but look for a UV stable one and it will last much longer before breaking down. Here's the one I used on Amazon. Amazon.com: Epoxy Table Top Resin, 1:1, 2 Gallon... Took about a gallon (half of this kit) to cover a 43"x52" table approx 1/8th inch deep. If you keep it polished (with automotive paint polishes and waxes) it will stay clear for a long long time. Automotive clear will yellow just as much as the resin will with time and requires the same polish/protection to avoid yellowing, so I personally wouldn't bother with it.

Re: automotive clear on bedwood
definitely would go the resin route IMO. It was designed originally for wood so I would go that route.

Re: automotive clear on bedwood
Working in the marine industry, even marine grade resins, epoxy, vinyl or polyester needs to be protected from UV by coating with paint or Gelcote. For a clear finish the resin is protected with varnish. Build up coats could be done with resin, then coated with automotive clear. Should last a long time.
