Aftermarket A/c
I looking to put an aftermarket A/C-heater on my 1961 C10. Can you please give me some feedback or suggestions regarding what product is the best quality and best value. I am aware of Vintage Air and Old Air Products, but have never used either. Are there others? Looking for good quality, fairly easy installation.
Thanks in advance |

Re: Aftermarket A/c
We installed about all of the major brands in our shop for customers. We've also had good results with Southern Air and Queen City.
A lot of the comparison depends on if you are looking for a direct fit or a universal. some of the major suppliers off units that will integrate with your OEM controls. Most complaints about poor performance comes from improper installation, or poor insulation of the vehicle. To get the best components, I would highly recommend taking advantage of the tech help offered, that way you will get the correct evaporator unit, condenser, etc. |

Re: Aftermarket A/c
I have used the thin-line unit from southern air in the last two trucks i've built. They fit under the dash and look good, that way you don't have to omit the glove box, or in some cases the radio

Re: Aftermarket A/c
Searching for info on aftermarket AC is so frustrating. Mostly what I turn up are replies from brokenspoke saying "do a search" (which is clearly not working) or "look in my build thread" (which I cannot find and he neglects to link to).
I've gone thru about 15 different combinations of search terms and looked thru 100s of pages of posts. A few pics here and there, but not much detail. |

Re: Aftermarket A/c
I have Old Air Products. It is about 12 years old and it has worked very well in my truck.
I also have a friend who has Vintage and I think it is even nicer than the Old Air. The only issues I have had are from stuff I did when I put it in, because I never did it before. If I were to do it again, I would go with the Gen IV from Vintage Air.

Re: Aftermarket A/c
I just installed a Vintage Air Surefit system in my 1966 GMC. The install was pretty straightforward and I am overall happy with the results. There are a few photos of the install in my Flickr Album here:1966 GMC Album
