Gmmg ls6
I'm getting towards the end of restoring my 1972 K10. After reading through a lot of your threads I was convinced that I needed to go the LS route. I found an LS6 and bought it. It reportedly "came out of a 2002 Special Edition Camaro". I called BS on that but bought anyway gambling that it was a good motor. After further investigation I found stampings on the passenger side top/front of the block that read GMMG-P1 and ZL1-14. I almost believe the guys Camaro comment now. Do you guys know what mods GMMG would have done to this motor? Is it anything special? I'm assuming "P-1" means Phase 1?

Re: Gmmg ls6
It most likely is an LS6 'block'. Sometime in 2001, they started using the surplus LS6 blocks in F bodys. It's not the same exact engine that was in the Z06 Vette though, as it will have LS1 241 heads rather than the 243's and the cam is LS1. It will have an LS6 part number cast into the block, so you could look it up to verify it, but it's very possible that that's what it is.

Re: Gmmg ls6
The last 4 digits on the back of the block are 1168 and the heads are 243's. My research shows that the company GMMG put LS6 in 2002 Camaros but I couldn't find out what mods they did, if any to the internals. By the way it has the yellow valve springs.

Re: Gmmg ls6
Ahh, I see. It was swapped in by another company. Wasnt aware of that company. I do know that some f bodys had Ls6 blocks, and actually have one out of a 25th anniversary Camaro, so figured that was what it was.

Re: Gmmg ls6
I've got this figured out. A guy on LS1 tech got me in contact with JD, the owner of the GMMG registry forum. He says that the P-1 does stand for phase 1 which is an un modded stock LS6 and not one of their "super car" motors. He said it was installed in car #14 and was tested/tuned for 300 miles on the dyno. The owner changed his mind at that point and payed 25,000 for the phase 3 motor (630 hp) and kept the stock LS6. It's nothing super special like I was hoping. It's still an awesome motor so I will use in my '72 K-10 with the 4L80e/205.

Re: Gmmg ls6
You might try contacting this member on ls1tech http://ls1tech.com/forums/member.php?u=19317 I tried searching for some ZL1 info and didn't find any good info from a quick search but he seemed to have a lot of info and owns 3 GMMG cars. It actually might be worth it for you to sell the motor and buy something else and make some profit off of it, but I dunno what it'd sell for.

Re: Gmmg ls6
http://www.gmmgregistry.com/id97.html Scrol down i think the phase one is 380 hp
http://www.gmmgregistry.com/id93.html Bottom of this page shows hp for each phase http://ls1tech.com/forums/special-ed...breakdown.html http://gmmginc.net/programs/ZL1/ http://www.camaroz28.com/2002-camaro-zl1-prototype/2/ I would say you have a LS6 with some tuning done to it to get 380 hp Last edited by gagliano7; 01-24-2014 at 11:37 AM. |
