1973 k20 350 Lock Cylinder Removal
The manual describes "break the housing flash loose"
![]() but my actual housing looks somewhat different. ![]() Any guidance on how to remove the lock cylinder in my setup? Thanks in advance.

Re: 1973 k20 350 Lock Cylinder Removal
Its been a long while since I've had to knock one out, but I'm 99% certain it is the flash in the rectangle outlined in the red that you need to knock out. Take a flat blade screw driver and give it a whack. If you break through, thats the one. =-) If you have a replacement cylinder, you can do a quick visual check and see that location corresponds with the spring loaded tab.

Cant remember but don't you also take the 4 hex screws out? I think that then gives you access to the lock. I think?

Re: 1973 k20 350 Lock Cylinder Removal
OK, Boys and girls, here's today's progress report:
First, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP! Yes, I know all caps is Screaming, but that's how I feel about this wonderful site. The root of my problem has been found. It looks like my 7-year-old grandkids: missing a couple of teeth. Does that just get pulled out thru the lock cylinder hole? Can you get a new one, and if so, where? And then I suppose it just gets pressed on. As always, thanks in advance for your help. -glen P.S. How many pills will I have to take to get this mess put back together?

Re: 1973 k20 350 HELP "ignition switch sector" - a nylon gear wheel.
Please help.
The broken part in the previous picture is, I believe, an "ignition switch sector" - a nylon gear wheel. I've tried online NAPA, OReilly, AutoZone, RockAuto - can't find it. Has anyone found this part? thanks in advance for your help.

Re: 1973 k20 350 Lock Cylinder Removal
I had my column rebuilt by a stolen and recovery "guy". He found a bunch of parts for it. Try calling places around you?

Re: 1973 k20 350 Lock Cylinder Removal
It is part of what they call a rack kit but I wouldn't spend the money buying a whole kit as they run $65 and you can get a tilt column for $150.
I would go to the local wrecking yard and pull one out of a busted up column. |
