extended cab long/shortbed question

Guys, this has probably been asked before but I'm curious about making an extended cab '66. The question is about the bed. I've seen stacy david do the long to shortbed conversion on a 67-72 style by cutting the end of the frame and taking a foot out from under the cab. So, if I was to cut the end of the frame would a short bed fit and leave about a 12" gap between bed and cab or would the mounts not work?

Re: extended cab long/shortbed question

The way I understand it is the difference in long/short wheelbase is 20 inches, 8" off the back and 12" in the middle behind the cab mount.
