Cab interior lights
In the process of repairing the dash lighting I realized why my interior cab lighting didn't work. This is pretty easy to diagnose and clean up, maybe this will help someone.
Blown light bulb under dash. Door Jamb Switch rusted out. Both doors were like this. The switch just screws into the door jamb. One major warning, do not pull the wire out through the top. It's a major pain in the ass to get fished back through. It took several minutes and a lot of prayer. Top Shell light housing with new bulb. Taping up. Nice and silver |

Re: Cab interior lights
I didn't know those switches threaded into the jambs. When you say you pulled the wire out the top, you mean the dome light?

My under dash light is located just to the left side of the glove box barely under the dash. The white wire that connects to the door jamb switch enters the door jamb from the interior about 6-8 inches above where you see the actual door jamb switch. On the drivers side it's just behind the dash behind the A/C vent. On the passenger side it's just behind the dash beaneath that A/C vent. |

Re: Cab interior lights
if the drivers pin has two wires ,one can be fore the key buzzer
I've seen these cause random light issues, rust and get bent while out had neighbours bang on the door, seeing the dome light on ,middle of the night

Re: Cab interior lights
Replaced the door jamb switch with these guys from Rockauto. I think they were about $1.00 a piece. They fit well, and screw in nicely but there's a little wiggle in them. I would have preferred a more firm screw down. I'm going to add a washer to see if that helps.
Also on a side note, there is enough thread for you to adjust these to your door and door jamb make up. I would image all are similar but just in case, you can just barely screw it in for a long switch striker or screw it all the way down to push the striker further from the door. Rockauto door jamb switch. Switch with wiring pigtail plugged in. Switch installed in the door jamb. |
