Project Overtime
With weather in the 60's today I decided it was time to get started on Project Overtime (named so cause the insane amount of hours I've worked this winter specifically for this build).
It started out after selling my last build which I really, really, really regret I wanted another SWB 4x4, 4-speed NP205. I found this one which fit the bill, it's mix and match of years and parts but they all seemed to be in great shape (minus the PS door) so I pulled the trigger: A few weeks ago Tennessee experienced the coldest weather in my life time, -10, and the redneck i bought the truck from only put water in the engine soooooo blocked cracked. I found a '71 Monte Carlo 350 today, dad's taking it to work to put a steam jenny to it and clean it up so I got started with the tear down: I'm needing some advice, I need a single stage paint in this color: That's my previous build, that was $50 paint job'd and it turned out well but I want to own the truck forever. |

Re: Project Overtime
Got 1 fender sanded down:
I picked up Majic Gloss Black for the frame and core support today: And I think I determined I'm gonna have it hauled to Macco for paint once I get the body work done and then stripped and primed. After reading about painting I don't think I can do it how I want with the means I have at hand. I plan to keep this truck forever so I'll pay a little more for a "professional" to shoot the truck. |

Re: Project Overtime
I'm in. Love what you did with the last truck, looking forward to version 2. I think Maaco is a good choice for a square driver.

Re: Project Overtime
Thanks man!
I make a little more now and I'm willing to spend a little more for this build, I'm hoping I end up with a nice driver when it's all said and done. |

Re: Project Overtime
I did some research on here, this guy had a very good experience with maaco:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=540806 I plan on doing all the body work myself, hopefully they can shoot a completely empty shell of a truck no problem. Especially a single color, non metallic paint. |

If anyone has or knows where I can get a set of doors (or just a passenger door) please let me know.

Re: Project Overtime
New motor (and new engine stand) are in house:
Not the cleanest motor I've ever seen but it runs, it'll server purpose until I can afford to build a big block. Also I'm back to $50 paintjob for this truck, Maaco quoted me $625 until I told them I was bringing a stripped truck and it jumped to $1500 for the little bit of extra paint for the firewall and behind the cab > That blew my $1,000 paint budget away. Hopefully I can find a painter willing to do it on the side or something. |

Re: Project Overtime
It does look good and it last a good while (everyone online says it looks crappy a year later but the only proof ever shown is from people who did it and it always seems to look just as good) but it's very time consuming to do it right. BUTTTT.....$150 for paint vs $1500 leaves me $1350 for new seats, carpet, bumpers, rhino liner, etc....

Re: Project Overtime
Nice truck. I remember seeing it for sale a long time ago. My step dad owned it. It sucks the block cracked, are you still going to paint it purple? I have some pictures of the truck torn down when he was rebuilding it. i can post them if you want me to.

Every Maaco is different. THe only way to nkow if yours is good or not is to actually stop in a few times over the course of about 3 weeks and check how the cars are turning out, and how fast they are moving. If you have two in your town, do that for both of them and pick the better one. Each maaco has different owners, different body guys, and different painters.
