3 on-the-tree vs. Automatic (Neutral and Reverse) interchange

Is it possible for me to simply remove my 'backup light' switch on my 3 on the tree and put in a neutral safety-reverse light switch in?

No idea the shift pattern... but I'm looking to utilize my 3-on-the-tree column in my 5.3L/4L60e swap... and my 4L60e shift range switch (neutral safety/reverse lights)is not pre-wired in my LS harness.

I want to replace this:

With this...

Why don't you just get a 66 automatic column it has neutral and back up light switches in it. Another thing to think about is on the 3 on the tree column there will not be a park paw to hold shifter in park it will fall to reverse. I'm having to change my column because I changed to a automatic.

I'll be using I think the 4L60e range selector after talking to some LSX guys as a few have ran into this before.....

Should be ALOT more accurate and reliable that the sloppy column mounts.

Switching columns simply isn't in the budget with so much money wrapped out in my powertrain for this "budget year"... and $15 switches are cheaper than $500 columns.

Thank god for the internet... i searched Delphi's website looking for a pinout forever.... LSx guys found it.... should work better than any column selector.
