Bolt in roll bar for Blazer

Just scored one (see different thread) and the vehicle I got it from had it bolted in over the carpet. I'm going to bolt it in when the rear has been cleaned out so it can go to the floor. what would i need to do before then and to get it bolted in properly. Do I need anything between it and the floor panels? Do i use EXTRA long bolts that go right through and the nut is under the rocker box?? How do i bolt it to the rear floor and the back of the wheel well? Do I need any extra pates, washers shims etc over and above the plate at the bottom of the bar etc etc??

Were the bolts missing from the Blazer you removed it from? If you still have access to that truck, I'd revisit it at least to see if it had backing plates under the floor beneath the spots it was mounted to. The roll bar will have plates at the base points with four mounting holes. What you want to do is try to use a plate just like it under the floor so that together they will "sandwich" the roll bar to the tub. You don't have to do this, but in a roll-over they'll help spread the load and lessen the chance the bar punches through the floor and doesn't do its job.

I'm having trouble visualizing where this mounts, but I like Bruisers points.
Ideally this is welded in.
Otherwise think of a seatbelt. Those have a big body washers under the floor pan to spread out the load.

I grabbed this from a "let's go race" car site, where they are installing a new roll bar.

These are the backing plates that came with it. They go on the underside of the body or wheel wells.

Saying it might "punch through" was a poor example, but think of it like this. If you drop it in, mark your spots on the floor and drill holes, then just bolt it in with washers on the backside - you might have bolted it in securely but you've done a lot to weaken the spot it's mounted to and four washers on the back aren't going to help a whole bunch if you roll it at anything more than a low-speed roll. Use backing plates if at all possible.

My 75 came with the roll bar. Ill look at it tomorrow when I get home from work and let ya know whats under it...

I got some flat plate steel and sandwiched the bar to the tub. I used grade 8 bolts and actually put it on top of the carpet....

thanks for the help guys. this roll bar mounts just in front of the rear wheel on eth floor. the support bar goes over the well and mounts on the floor and with two bolts into the well. I shall need to shape a plat to fit the back. In front of the rear wheels, under the floor is the rocker box though is it not? so i can access it to put in a plate??

any ideas on this. Should I drill through top and bottom of rocker box and put plate below it also?

Don't the rocker boxes bolt in? If you remove them and get a backing plate under the tub I wouldn't go through the boxes as well.
